Mark Falkin, Austin writer of the novel Days Of Grace, sat down with us recently for a chat or two. It’s actually been a couple of months since we first started this interview process. Christmas time... And that long expanse had nothing to do with the diligent and understanding efforts of Mark Falkin himself. Oh no. The blame for such a delayed display falls squarely on the interviewer himself. Because he simply can’t be trusted....

Ah yes, the pre-calm of middle age. That late-twenties, early-thirties time of disconsolation, confusion, and general regret. There will always be a healthy pack of writers dropping straws into that pool of midlife malaise, to suck up enough muse juice to pop out a story of some sort.
Another Austin writer has made good. Attorney and novelist Mark Falkin has written a coming-of-age story about a man coming to terms with his life after losing his mother to cancer. (Aside: All of the proceeds from the book will go to the American Cancer Society. Bravo, Mr. Falkin.) Told in a modified stream of consciousness style, Days of Grace portrays a young man's confusion and anxiety as he sets out on a humorous and touching journey of self-discovery, performing, as he states, "a series of anthropological experiments of sorts. However, the control group is me and in the end it is me who is also the lab rat."
