Speaking with comedian Maria Bamford for the first time feels like reconnecting with an old friend; thanks to the magic of Google, she's armed with questions about your recent projects, she has a funny story about pretty much anything you happen to mention and, best of all, she's ready and willing to gossip about her two pugs, Blossom and Burt. This weekend, Maria will be gracing the stage at Cap City, ringing in the New Year with a few hundred of her newest pals.
You may recognize one of Maria's many voices from animated shows like CatDog, Back at the Barnyard or Kung Fu Panda. Maybe you've heard one of her three albums (like 2009's Unwanted Thoughts Syndrome), or seen her featured on your favorite late night show. Comedy connoisseurs know she was part of the Comedians of Comedy tour and subsequent documentary series (along with Patton Oswalt and Zach Galfianakis). Who better to spend your New Year's Eve with than a brilliant, bubbly lady who can find humor in everything from family drama to mentoring wayward teens? Nobody, and that's why we're looking forward to Cap City Comedy's New Year's Eve show, hosted by local comic David McQuary.

Going Out of Bounds: OOB Starts Tonight!
The annual Out of Bounds Fest kicks off this evening with a big boom—none other than the lovely and charming Maria Bamford performs at Esther's Pool. Opening is our very own Lovey and Lovey; Austin's Matt Bearden emcees.
No Place Else to Sit: Austinist Interviews Maria Bamford
Maria Bamford is practically her own comedic brand: She headlined the Comedians of Comedy Tour (alongside Patton Oswalt, Zach Galifianakis, and Brian Posehn), she starred in her own sitcom on SuperDeluxe! called The Maria Bamford Show, and she’s part of the all-star ensemble assembled by Arrested Development creator Mitch Hurwitz to star in the upcoming animated series Sit Down, Shut Up. So it’s no small miracle that Ms. Bamford will grace our fine city not once but twice in the next two months: at the Cap City Comedy Club next week (July 29-30), and again on August 26 to kick off the Out of Bounds improv festival.
Chit Chat: Lovey and Lovey hit USAA
For the remaining Fridays in July, Lovey and Lovey, the alter-egos of comedians Michael Jastroch and Tami Nelson, will be holding court at the US Art Authority. Described by Sean O'Neal at The Onion as a "modern take on the screwball comedy...in the grand tradition of The Thin Man's wet-whistled wits Nick and Nora," the Loveys trade barbs about life, love, and whatever the audience might toss their way. We had a chance to chat with none other than Madame and Monsieur Lovey. Here's a teaser of the snap and sparkle you can expect from the show.
Austinist Interviews Maria Bamford
Maria Bamford, along with Zach Galifianakis, Patton Oswalt, and Brian Posehn, was one of the original Comedians of Comedy. We spoke with Maria recently about her upcoming performance tonight (sold out) and tomorrow night at Cap City Comedy Club.
The Comedians of Comedy premiered at SXSW in 2004, right?
Right.
Were you there for that?
I think I was. Hold on a second. Yes, I was. I was there.
What did you think about SXSW?
It was awesome. You get to watch movies. I like the place where you watch movies and can have a beer and eat something.
The Drafthouse.
Yeah. That was really great. I like that.
