Music: Our Top 15 Albums of 2011

"All those wasted miles/ All those aimless drives through green aisles/ Our careless lifestyle/ It was not so unwise.” On “Green Aisles”, the second track from Real Estate’s second album, lead singer Martin Courtney pretty much delivers the thesis statement of his band’s existence. more ›

Getting Pretty Fond of Fx3 [Fun Fun Fun Fest Memory]

Getting Pretty Fond of Fx3 [Fun Fun Fun Fest Memory]

Somehow I overlooked the first couple of years of Fx3 as a transplant to Austin still elated and overwhelmed by the plethora of accessible live music available on the regular. But in 2009, I scored a cozy introduction manning a booth at the fest for a few hours one day in exchange for a weekend wristband. Why not, right? I had no idea what to expect and found myself pleasantly surprised by the laid back scene - not too crowded, manageable lines for beer/food, and a good mix of fans. Sold Out Special: Lykke Li at Antone's Tonight

Li Lykke Timotej Zachrisson's christian moniker doesn't exactly roll of the tongue, but shortened and juxtaposed her stage name sounds like something naughty you participate in from the back of the church bus. Much like her music, actually. The Swedish pixie and her Feist-as-a-toddler pipes fluttered out of the maelstrom this last year with a trifecta of stripped-down singles that trickled through the net, vibrating cilia from Toronto to Tokyo. more ›
