Two days after SXSW kicks off and our city becomes a living, breathing conglomeration of people from all walks of life, Austinist presents Local Music is Sexy at the PureVolume Ranch. Past Local Music is Sexy events have showcased acts such as The Black Angels, Brothers and Sisters, The Lemurs, The Corto Maltese, Black Before Red, and IV Thieves to name a few. Last year, we remember dancing the night away to Car Stereo (Wars)’ mad mash-ups, drinking free Red Bull (among other things), and having a go at the sweet Wii set up in that little lounge at the location. All in all, an excellent time....

You may have already purchased tickets, or you might have been our lucky winner last week (Dax Riggs post-show included), but what you didn't know at the time was that local heartthrobs the Lemurs would be opening. The Lemurs are an impenetrable Austin mainstay, and they have been very busy these last couple months. They headlined our Local Music Is Sexy IV party ACL weekend, then went on tour, then said goodbye to their long......

Eleven Hundred Springs specialize in a pure brand of country that should provide a perfect anti-dote for fans of that genre amidst the variety of pop, rock and electronic acts at the 2007 Wall Of Sound Festival. Lead by Matt Hillyer and Steve Berg, the band has put out a number of records on labels such as 13 Recordings and Palo Duro Records. Clap! Clap! are a hard-working band. Besides playing numerous shows in and around town, they have been in the studio recording their debut full-length (You Love This), chock full of blistering synth pop-rock no doubt. The number of members in the band has peaked at fifteen during some stages of their career, making for some riveting performances but Josh! Clap! verifies the current number of constituents to be eight. He also points out that......

Peanut Butter and Jelly, Guns N’ Roses, Matt & Kim, plenty of items in life go perfectly together. Fashion and Music? Sure, why not? Mariessa, a young and up-and-coming fashion designer in the city is putting together a mouth watering extravaganza at the Parish to showcase the magic of both. Innovative designs will be complemented by the wonderful sounds of Golden Bear, fresh on the heels of their second release, To The Farthest Star. The......

Say what you will about the Austin music scene, if there's one thing we've got in spades, it's heart. And breakfast tacos. But that's another story altogether. Our bands can take any other city's bands on when it comes to sheer per capita productivity and playing out, never leaving their respective constituencies on the sidelines. And albums? Lordy, just walk into Waterloo Records and check out the local music section: 2006 was a banner......

Once upon a time in Nottingham, England's "Capital of Crime," four young working-class lads met and started a band. The brill quartet was spearheaded by Nic Armstrong, but it's no secret that Johnny Aitken, Shane Lawlor and Glenn Wedgewood are all incredibly talented and undoubtedly the dog's bollocks. If you weren't as arsholed as the rest of us at Austinist's recent Local Music Is Sexy do, you probably remember the cracking quartet's impressive live......

As we sat down to write this week's Best of the -ists post, a car blaring "21 Questions'" passed by our house. And that started us thinking about how some of the best -ist posts out there have at their hearts questions, some of which are answered, and some of which are left open. Check out the Best of the -ists from this week, and see if you agree. Londonist answers the questions "How much......

Good day to you, music fans! If you weren’t enjoying last night’s music and festivities at the Austinist’s high-energy pre-ACL party, Local Music Is Sexy 2, I regret to inform you that you missed one hell of a great time. I was honored to serve as emcee of this year’s event (although I had to remind myself to shut up and keep it short at the mic), and the evening served as inspiration for the playlist I’m assembling for this evening’s Laurie Show on KUT 90.5. ...

You’ve probably heard it through the grapevine that Brothers and Sisters is making quite an impression here in A-town. It seems that everywhere we turn, their name pops up in reference to a buzz they’ve produced in our local scene, so strong it threatens to drown out all indie-rock competition in a five hundred mile radius. We say kudos. With an influx of great bands like them, our scene’s standards have been raised ever......

Well, I can't quite believe I'm finished. Last night I posted the few remaining previews, which means that for the second year in a row, I have previewed each and every act performing at the Austin City Limits Festival. I couldn't have done it without help though, so once again, I would like to thank John, JD, Jeff, Chris and Becky, who each contributed guest previews to help me finish my project. I would......

We just wanted to remind you that two of our favorite bands, and bands that happen to spend a lot of time sitting in our living room, will be playing shows in the next 36 hours. When you know bands, they put a lot of pressure on you to get people to come see their shows. And when those bands are sitting on your couch, holding a gun to your head, you do it.......
