IT Giant Unisys To Close Austin Help Desk Center

Worldwide information technology company Unisys plans to close its Austin help desk center this fall, a move that will put 250 people out of work. The shutdown is planned for September 30, according to News8Austin. The station reported that the company said the closure of the location at 5700 South Mopac is part of its reorganization and a way to cut expenses. 550 Jobs Lost As Part of Samsung Plant Renovation

Samsung Austin Semiconductor will cut 550 jobs from its Austin manufacturing operations later this year. The company's Fab 1 plant will be shut down on or about October 18, and most of the eliminated jobs are centered there. The Fab 1 facility is being renovated to become part of the newer, larger, more automated Fab 2 factory next door.
