It’s been two weeks since Pimp C’s death. Last Thursday he was buried in Port Arthur. Reading through all of the eulogies and obituaries that have poured out of the local papers, the blogs, the national media, and the rap community since December 4th, you obviously will see trends. Everyone immediately identifies Pimp C by his drawl and how he rhymed through his vowels, and it seems as though this – his voice - will be a big part of his legacy, along with his production and his pioneer-status as an early and consistent member of the Texas rap scene....

Last Thursday's Texas Conference for Women brought 7,500 folks to the Austin Convention Center for some estrogen-fueled networking and personal development. With panels on starting a small business and caring for children and elderly parents, the conference served its diverse demographic well. Yesterday, the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals - the state's highest criminal court - decided to stay the lethal injection of Hilberto Chi, a 28-year-old Honduran man convicted of killing a men's store manager in Arlington back in 2001. This ruling comes one week after the U.S. Supreme Court agreed to consider whether a specified form of lethal injection constituted the infliction of "cruel and unusual punishment," a practice prohibited by the Eighth Amendment. Last Thursday, around two in the morning, 37 years of Austin barbeque tradition and The T-Man were lost when a fire engulfed Bert's BBQ on 610 West MLK Boulevard, just southwest of the UT campus. A malfunctioning breaker panel in the building's back room caused a two-alarm blaze that needed 40 firefighters and 20 trucks to control. Last Thursday, the Maui Film Festival awarded Andrew, Owen, and Luke Wilson with a Shooting Star Trophy for their most recent film, The Wendell Baker Story, which the festival describes as "inspiring." Wendell Baker was filmed almost entirely in Austin a couple of years ago. We remember watching the brothers (and Will Ferrell!) film some scenes in Hyde Park and we remember being star-struck. At the time, we were hopeful for a great movie.......
