Excuse us while we step into the blogger battlefield compost bin. This isn't an attack; it’s just our new media way of recycling – turning lies into truth, melding age-old stereotypes into something a little more flattering. Al Gore is coming to town in October, people. It’s time to set things straight. Daisy Whitney runs a blog called “Trial and Error” over at TelevisionWeek where she keeps tabs on the ever-changing medium that is...

GoogTube! GoogTube! GoogTube! Here's what's new at the record store: Annuals Be He Me (Ace Fu) Because of (or in despite of) their popularity with the blogging set, Annuals' highly anticipated album, Be He Me, is sure to be a hit this week. For fans of Arcade Fire, Broken Social Scene, and yes, even Animal Collective, Annuals add a bit of punch to the whole "we're pretending to be lo-fi but really we spent...
One of our chief regrets this SXSW was missing out on the showcase performance by London's Goldfrapp, especially after seeing this amateur video recording posted on YouTube and reading the Chronicle's coverage (read: fuschia pink cape!) Nevertheless, their latest record, Supernature, has been in steady rotation over at Austinist HQ since we found a copy of it sitting in our mailbox a few months ago. From the sensuous synth oscillations in opening single "Ooh La La" to the punchy, effervescent "Satin Chic," the album exudes a lusty, electro glam-rock decadence that we adore. But we'll let you judge for yourself, because we're giving away two advance copies of Supernature! And yes, we realize that "advance" is somewhat irrelevant, as the album officially came out a few weeks ago (we've been backed up). Simply send us an email at some point today, and we'll draw two random winners in the afternoon. [Shadows tag] goldfrapp

We enjoyed Martin's novella, Shopgirl--a bittersweet portrait of finding one's identity in La La Land (aka Los Angeles), and so we are looking forward to the adaptation. Shopgirl shows tonight (Oct. 20th) at the Paramount at 7:50....
