Austin TV and the Switch [The Digital Transition and You]

Although most local stations (KXAN, KVUE, and even FOX7), are sticking with analog past February, the Washington Post reports today that about 500 stations nationwide are going ahead with the digital transition on the originally scheduled date of February 17. Now NBC fans on Time Warner can watch the election results next week, and the season premiere of 30 Rock tomorrow night, on KXAN. KXAN announced earlier this morning through Twitter that the channel was once again available to Time Warner cable subscribers. Local NBC affiliate KXAN announced today that it may be taken off of Time Warner Cable's broadcast service in early October if current contract re-negotiations don't work out. The station, which has been around since the 1960s, is part of parent company LIN TV, which owns local stations around the country.

The Radio-Television News Directors Association's 2008 Regional Edward R. Murrow award-winners were announced yesterday. Texas and Oklahoma share Region 6, and some of our local news broadcasters cleaned up.

On the show, KXAN's Chief Weathercaster warns of a tornado approaching the fictional town of Dillon, TX. The episode spoiler reveals that a rival high school is subsequently damaged by the twister, forcing both teams to share Laribee High's weight room, football field and lockers. Antics doubtlessly ensue.
