The city continues to attract some of the best talent to play its venues; several of our hometown heroes have achieved national and international prominence, and the ever expanding diversity and reach of our four major music festivals continue to demonstrate our city’s dedication and passion for the art form.
Aztec Mummy Movie Night at Mexic-Arte Museum
It's a rare and wonderful thing when mummy movies and fine art come together seamlessly. This Friday, the Mexic-Arte Museum and KOOP Radio are putting on just such an anomalous event. In support of the current Aztec and Maya Revival exhibit, the museum is hosting a movie screening featuring the 1957 film La Momia Azteca (Attack of the Aztec Mummy). The film features b-movie standards such as hypnosis, cursed mummies, hidden treasure, and reincarnated Aztec maidens.
Austinist Weekend Music Preview: KOOP Pop Prom @ Club de Ville
KOOP 91.7 FM has had a rough couple of years, dealing with accidents and arson. KOOP serves our city daily with quality programming and their mission “is to provide high quality, innovative, and diverse community-oriented programming to Austin with an emphasis on those communities that are ignored or under-served by mainstream media” (Read it in its entirety on their MySpace page.)

Body found in Lady Bird Lake this morning by the hike-and-bike trail. Fire started in Southeast Travis County, about 6 miles from the airport, by a man with a cutting torch. AISD teacher fingerprinting kicked off today. Whoop?
KOOP Fire Extinguishes Programming
For the third time in two years, community based public radio station KOOP 91.7 fm has suffered a studio fire that has put a halt to programming.
