Table Dance Brings the Rap Music to Scoot Inn Tonight [Show Preview]

We know...you're probably already super-stoked on tonight's Local Music is Sexy show at the Mohawk, and you'd never consider not going, ever. But as much local music and fun as we've got on the docket for tonight, we are, admittedly, missing southern hip hop and battle rappers. If that's your (or someone you love's) bag, alert them to the happenings at the Scoot Inn tonight, where Knuckle Rumbler and Austin Surreal are presenting Table Dance. more ›

Preview: Questlove / Sammy Bananas [Red 7 / Beauty Bar Tonight]

This Tuesday, KR hosts a unique block party of sorts down on Seventh Street. Head over to Beauty Bar for THE ZOO, an afterparty for the Chromeo show (at Stubb’s) featuring the hilariously named Sammy Bananas, along with locals Hoodie Allen and Prepmode. You can get into this dance-a-thon for $3 with a Stubb’s wristband, or $5 if you plan to skip the Chromeo show. Or you can go for free with your ticket stub from the Questlove DJ Set right next door at Red 7. You may not be able to pry your way into his band’s ACL taping, but that’s no reason to completely miss out on some Roots action this evening. more ›

Tonight At Frank: More Than Just A Dog [Yacht Rock Alert]

Tonight At Frank: More Than Just A Dog [Yacht Rock Alert]

It’s now time to usher in the age of live performances at Frank. The eatery has invited The Motts (spearheaded by Michael Kingcaid and featuring a whole slew of local musicians) to deliver two hours of Yacht Rock favorites every Tuesday in the month of July. The residency kicks off tonight at 9 p.m. and promises to be one heck of a soundtrack to your meal. Rumor has it that karaoke is also a part of the evening’s entertainment. When all is said and done, you could do a lot worse than a German Currywurst, a Summer Soda, and a classic Michael McDonald song on a Tuesday night. more ›

Weekend Music Preview: Erol Alkan, The Frontier Brothers, & Jigga Stardust

Weekend Music Preview: Erol Alkan, The Frontier Brothers, & Jigga Stardust

We’ve been fans of Learning Secrets for quite a while now. Besides constantly hosting bumping residencies around town (currently every Friday at Red Fez), LS regularly brings in revered DJs and the like. This Thursday, at Republic Live, LS presents Erol Alkan, disc jockey, producer, musician, and all-around bad-ass purveyor of pulsating beats galore. Somewhat of a legend, at least in the U.K., Alkan was an integral part of the fabled Trash events in London, and has worked with acts such as The Long Blondes and Boyz Noize. He has also remixed material by a whole slew of luminaries including Franz Ferdinand, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Hot Chip, Justice, and Klaxons. A rather impressive resume, if you ask us. Don’t miss out on this inevitable dance party -- get your tickets here. And check out this hilarious promo video by the LS team. more ›

Giveaway: Thunderheist @ Emo's [Thursday]

Turn2Live.com, along with local marketing entity Knuckle Rumbler, has initiated a series of events in town (entitled Mood2Music) to promote its website which “enables users to discover shows using intuitive search terms.” (You can learn more about the concept on their site.) They had a successful (and highly enjoyable) first outing last month at Club Deville, complete with Annie Ray’s photobooth and live sets by VEGA (performing at this year’s Fun Fest) and Neiliyo (who barely missed making the final cut for a spot at Lollapalooza this year but ended up assisting Car Stereo (Wars) at the festival). Heck, the de Ville shindig had the Austinist ping pong team partying into the wee hours. more ›
