Kevin Smith's "Porno" Flick to Kick off Fantastic Fest

The folks at Fantastic Fest have just announced that Kevin Smith's new flick, Zack and Miri Make a Porno, will open this year's festival with a screening at the Paramount Theatre. The film follows two lifelong friends (Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks) as they attempt to make some fast cash by producing a porno film. Smith will be on hand for what will no doubt be an ultra-nerdy, marathon-length Q&A. Tickets go on sale to the general public at noon this Saturday, August 30th (if you're already a Fantastic Fest badgeholder, you don't need a ticket). You can get tickets at www.fantasticfest.com, by phone at 1-866-4GET-TIX or at the Paramount Theater Box Office. [Link] more ›

Kevin Smith Bringing Clerks Double Feature to Austin?

Kevin Smith Bringing Clerks Double Feature to Austin?

News Askew, the official news source of View Askew Productions, pointed us to the possibility of Kevin Smith hosting a Clerks double feature in Austin next month. Kevin gave a blatant hint on his message board last Friday, indicating that he would be showing a double feature of his Clerks franchise here this coming February. He's spoken quite fondly of both Austin and the Alamo Drafthouse in the past, so we certainly wouldn't put... more ›

Get Fuck’d This Week at The Alamo

Get Fuck’d This Week at The Alamo

It’s just a fucking word, people. Seriously, what the fuck? Steve Anderson's documentary Fuck, a hit at this year’s SXSW, takes an honest look at everyone’s favorite four letter word. Part comedy, part earnest anthropological exploration, the film explores our fascination with, and the power of, this ubiquitous swear word. The film features interviews with a host of fascinating subjects, ranging from our most recent favorite genius, David Milch, to Hunter S. Thompson to Pat... more ›

“I feel good today, Silent Bob. We're gonna make some money! And then you know what we're going to do? We're going to go to that party and get some pussy! I'm gonna fuck this bitch, that bitch...I'LL FUCK ANYTHING THAT MOVES!”** That’s certainly one way to write a rated-R comedy. Of course, there are others. Last week we told you that Kevin Smith will be at the Austin Film Festival in support of... more ›

Film Review: Kevin Smith Is Taking It Back With Clerks II

Film Review: Kevin Smith Is Taking It Back With Clerks II

Anyone who saw Jersey Girl could see Kevin Smith's struggle with moving away from his decade-long relationship with New Jersey malcontents and underachievers. The comedy had left his writing, and what remained felt anonymous and, well, uninteresting. more ›

Siegel Gets into Hairy Situation with Kevin Smith

Siegel Gets into Hairy Situation with Kevin Smith

Mustachioed movie critic Joel Siegel got his panties in a wad during a recent New York screening of Clerks II. During a particular scene that described a donkey show, Siegel could take no more and decided to leave the movie 40 minutes into the screening. Siegel got up during the movie and apparently said, "Time to go! First movie I've walked out of in 30 fucking years." The fact that he did not like the movie did not ruffle many feathers, but the unprofessional and juvenile way in which the Good Morning America reviewer responded really pissed off Kevin Smith, who responded in his blog. more ›

The premier of Clerks II is going on right now at the Paramount. The red carpet was rolled out for Kevin Smith and, well, that's it. The director was the only star who made the stroll. "Where's Jason?!?" someone shouted, referring to Jason Mewes, aka "Jay." "He's back out in L.A.," Smith shouted back. We guess if Mewes had too many commitments to attend to, it was foolish to hope for a Rosario Dawson sighting.... more ›

Film Bits: Kevin Smith Rocks The Party Monday, And SXSW Previews On BitTorrent

Film Bits: Kevin Smith Rocks The Party Monday, And SXSW Previews On BitTorrent

While we all know and love the eclecticism of the Alamo Drafthouse, sometimes we feel there is literally no rhyme or reason to a particular event. Not that this is a bad thing: they just keep us guessing, that's all. Case in point: Kevin Smith (writer/director of Clerks and Chasing Amy) is hosting a midnight screening of the Kid-N-Play movie House Party tomorrow night. We haven't a clue as to why, other than that Smith is in town lecturing at UT's film school. If you are a Silent Bob fan, or just love silly teenager movies and PG-rated rap, reserve your seats here. Admission is free, but reserved tickets require purchase of a $10 food/drink voucher. more ›
