Screen Door Films Present Latest Batch of Shorts, Tonight at Emo's Lounge
Screen Door Film started off in 2004 by showcasing a bunch of wonderful short films they'd found from all over the country, with a particular emphasis on works by Austin directors. Many of their selections have appeared at Sundance, SXSW, and other festivals around the world. Most recently, they began hosting a series of combination screenings and presentations, focused on the business aspect of indie filmmaking; programs in the last two months included the Duplass...
Time to celebrate the 2nd anniversary of the Dionysium
Two years ago LB Deyo and Buzz Moran first gathered the faithful for a unique festival of intellect and revelry called The Dionysium. Tonight, we're all invited to celebrate that event, with "another scintillating monthly installment of cerebral stimulation, cultural enlightenment and ill-advised drunkenness." Here's the line-up for the June Dionysium: Owen Egerton of the Sinus Show will read his short story "Waffle," while someone else sits in the front row and makes jokes over...
Jumping Off Bridges & Rescue Me, Together in San Marcos

Please Be Upstanding for Kat Candler
We love Kat so much we had to get the word out about the premiere of her new film jumping off bridges this Saturday at the SXSW Film Festival. You may not have a film pass, but you should go and try to get a ticket. Kat is not only a local filmmaker to support, she is a spotlight on truth and beauty. Great independent films don't have to always be about crude jokes, violence,...
Bugs for Bridges
This Saturday afternoon, local fillmmaking supporters should go out to see Kat Candler's first feature, Cicadas, to help raise funds for the post production costs of her latest film, Jumping Off Bridges. (What else are you doing, napping?) It's a win-win situation. You can have your cake and eat it too. You can kill two birds with one stone. You can see a great film and help a local filmmaker at the same time. See what we're getting at? We think you do. They're also showing outtakes from Jumping Off Bridges, which is currently being shopped around to various American film festivals.
Go Kat Go
Kat Candler has only recently wrapped her latest film, jumping off bridges, and already big things are happening. First, the rough cut of the film was chosen for the 2005 Independent Feature Project's Rough Cuts Lab. Kat and her Storie Productions cohorts (Lorie Marsh and Stacy Schoolfield) will travel to NYC in September to be a part of the market magic. Then, The Texas Filmmakers Production Fund awarded the film a $5,000 grant, which...
Austinist Interview with Kat Candler, Austin Filmmaker
Kat Candler made a name for herself in the local film scene when her first feature, cicadas, premiered at the 2000 Austin Film Festival. Her film about "four teenagers trying to find strength and understanding at that age where no one understands" was an audience favorite at the fest and went on a tour of other US film festivals. Candler went on to make a number of shorts, including "The Absence of Wings"--her contribution to Six in Austin.
