This Tuesday evening, Stubb’s is the place to be if you’re hankering for some top-notch Americana music. Phoenix’ What Laura Says started as a two-piece in 2003 and initially went by What Laura Says Thinks And Feels. Although the band’s moniker was shortened soon after, their line-up and their sound both expanded in the following years. What Laura Says added three new members in 2006, dropped their debut in 2008, and earlier this month, released their second full-length Bloom Cheek on Terpsikhore Records. Lush folk-pop, chock full of infectious melodies and euphonic harmonies, is this versatile outfit’s forte, and they’re equally comfortable delivering a sedate number or spawning a stirring jam session.

Review Lonestar, Texas: A Popcorn Throwing Rock Country Musical at United States Art Authority [theater]
Interactivity comes at a price, and in Lonestar, Texas: A Popcorn Throwing Rock Country Musical, that price is pretty steep: In the pursuit of engaging the audience by having the three Sexy Cowgirls flirt with them, the Narrator speak directly to them, and the villain be so vile as to encourage popcorn-throwing, Lonestar spends almost no time actually telling its story.
