More than 25 years later, there's an arrest made for the murder of local musician Johnny Goudie's mother, Natalie Antonetti.

Long time residents of Austin must get a tad nostalgic when they hear the name Johnny Goudie. The versatile musician has been earning his keep in the Live Music Capital for many a year. After stints with a few bands in Houston (Panjadrum, Lovetree, as well as some solo outings), Goudie relocated to Austin and pursued a number of projects, including Mr. Rocket Baby. By 1997, Goudie had turned his attention to his new band, the eponymous Goudie. Goudie the band gained prominence with 2000’s Peep Show release on Lars Ulrich’s The Music Company label (under the Elektra Records umbrella). Stirring guitar-rock marked by glossy production and Goudie’s crisp vocal delivery ensured a sonically impressive record and earned the band tours with the likes of Supergrass and Blur. Goudie disbanded after the release of 2002’s …Effects of Madness on local label India Records.

Goudie has been writing, performing and producing in Austin since the early '90s, and though his luck has been something plenty of bands probably turn green over, he's still looking for the last break into the lexicon of household names. Being discovered by Lars Ulrich at SXSW years ago, signing to Electra, and tours with Veruca Salt, Blur and Supergrass filled the bulk of the '90s before Goudie (the group) broke up and Johnny went on to pursue a solo career.

When winter hits and national acts slow their roll, Austin locals tend to become more vibrant than ever. With Free Week just around the corner and so many great local releases prepping for their street dates, we thought we'd take a moment and catch you up.

Johnny Goudie and his new band, the Little Champions, will be performing at the Beauty Bar tonight for the first time ever. He's been working on a new album with the new band, enlisting the help of Lomita's Jonas Wilson behind the board. Sound-wise, Goudie's brit-pop influence is his greatest asset, mixing the sounds of early Suede with more contemporary this-side-of-the-pond pop sensibilities. Melodic, atmospheric rock tempered with rock star swagger and a mean pair...

Finally, after years of playing sideman to many great Austin bands, Johnny Goudie is back in the spotlight where he belongs. Many of you still remember Johnny’s former band Goudie, who released two critically acclaimed albums, "Peep Show" (2000) and "Effects of Madness" (2002). Unfortunately, critical acclaim can only go so far, and Goudie disbanded while Johnny faded from the music scene. Releasing a CD under the moniker I Love Elke, Johnny hit the...
