New Release Tuesday: Justice & Crowded House

Justice † (Vice) You might have familiarized yourself with French dance duo Justice courtesy the remix of Simian's "Never Be Alone", and such an introduction wouldn't be a false start, though the album is a bit different. Justice, who have received (mostly justified) comparisons to Basement Jaxx and Daft Punk, seem to shine when given someone else's work to toy with, but seem less dynamic when working from their own toolbox. This album claims... more ›

Austinist Giveaway: Master Pancake Does The Breakfast Club

We're all friends here, right? So let's just admit to each other, right now, that we all love John Hughes' movies. Just let it out--there's no judgment here. Hughes wrote some of the best all-around comedies of the 1980s, from National Lampoon's Vacation to Planes, Trains & Automobiles. And while leg-warmers and oversized plastic earrings may give us the shivers just a tad, we have found something that reminds us of the 80's that we can fully get behind. We are talking about The Mercers, a new group of some longtime Austin musicians. (A front man for an Austin band actually born in Austin? That's umpossible.) Former front man of... more ›

Another Bomb Scare Shakes (near) Downtown Austin

Another Bomb Scare Shakes (near) Downtown Austin

On our way to work this morning aboard the Gold Dillo (the Dillo’s are free, y’all), we saw an assortment of police and emergency vehicles, along with multiple Cap Metro busses, lined up in front of the Hyatt on Riverside. We figured it was a bomb scare, and we figured right. According to the Statesman, a man entered the lobby around 7am, placed his bag in the lobby and then asked where the restroom was. Upon his exit, he was reminded of his bag, and he ran. Another bag was spotted near the pool. Austin authorities are using robotic technology to determine the contents of the bag. We will let you know more details as they become available. more ›
