Texas roadside historical markers probably aren’t your idea of a riveting read, but authors Dan K. Utley and Cynthia J. Beeman manage to make them completely engrossing. They’ll be at BookPeople today discussing their book, History Ahead: Stories Beyond the Texas Roadside Markers (Texas A&M University Press), which gives an idiosyncratic look at the forgotten corners of Texas history. In the book, the authors flesh out a selection of the stories etched onto the 13,000 historical markers that dot our state.
