Our Indieroke night returns this Tuesday to The Mohawk. What started out as a one-off fling with rock stardom has turned into a monthly gathering of like-minded folks craving that fleeting moment of exhilaration. If you haven’t made it to one yet, we strongly recommend getting there in a timely fashion to get your name and song on the list early…and often. (You know who you are!) We will have multiple song list books going forward to ease that pain....

Image from Team Fabrication’s MySpace Emo’s is just one of the places you could be this Friday evening. Local experimental act, The Octopus Project released their latest full-length, Hello, Avalance on Peek-A-Boo Records last month and will be providing nuggets of electronic mayhem from the new album and past releases, no doubt. Cue and Horse+Donkey round off this bill of unique Austin acts on the outside stage. Inside at Emo’s, Those Peabodys will be on......

Lick Lick and The Invincible Czars head up an evening of eccentric rock n’ roll tonight at Room 710. Self classified as “prunk”, the former concentrates on post-punk assembled with catchy guitar riffs and per their MySpace page, “Lick Lick are sure to make prunk a household term in 2007.” The band is set to join the likes of Tia Carrera, Gorch Fock, and Attack Formation on the local Australian Cattle God Records for......

It's the handsome downtown gallery owner with curly hair or the hot Astanga instructor at YogaYoga South. It's the pedicab driver with the cute southern accent or your favorite Lone Star Rollergirl. It's your local, secret crush. Austinist is pleased to kick off the new year with this edition's interview: Patrick, The Orange Hat Bike Messenger Guy. We'd just about given up on this request—after months of scoping out messengers downtown. However, Lady Serendipity threw......

After counting your blessings for not being pierced through the heart by a stingray over the weekend, you might want to stop by your local record store and check out what's new. Grizzly Bear Yellow House (Warp) Ed Droste's Grizzly Bear are back with a full band and a shimmering landscape of an album reminiscent of Brian Wilson's hey-day, old fashioned American harmony and lush layers of sound that combine folk, post-rock and psychedelia......

We -ists are an eclectic bunch, but there's a couple of things we all love: famous people, social causes, and wacky local facts. Join us as we starf**k, get virtuous, and learn across the -ist network! Austinist starts us off right by filling the famous person quota by interviewing Lewis Black, covers the social cause with a non-profit car sharing company, and gives us more wacky local facts than we can handle with Austin by......

Metal was alive and well at Emo's outside stage last Thursday night as local shred heroes The Sword christened a European tour. Heralding the release of their new album, Age Of Winters, the foursome, true to their reputation, conjured up the tenth level Were-Griffyns of Rock. Supported by Torche, ASG, and Golden Axe, it was a loud, hairy evening. All of which was tenuously held together by a mysterious force: the irony of Metal retread.......

Even though the summer concert season is rapidly coming to an end, there were several major concert announcements this past week. The bad news is that Austin isn’t getting a lot of love these days, as most of these shows are an hour away. If you won’t be roasting yourself at ACL, My Chemical Romance will be playing in San Antonio on September 24th at Sunset Station. This great bill also includes the Alkaline......

Ozzy’s days are numbered. For ten years, Ozzfest has been the premier showcase for the best that metal has to offer as well as the best place to see the new crop of metal bands waiting for their big break. Although other tours have tried, like Pledge of Allegiance and Tattoo the Earth, Ozzy has had a lockdown on the summer metal festival scene. This summer will be different because there’s a new tour......

Hope you've been saving your allowance, there's quite a few CD's out today to bang your head to. Candlemass - Candlemass (Nuclear Blast) This self-titled CD is the twelfth album from these Swedish Doom legends, but it’s their first release on Nuclear Blast. Their latest release is a far cry from their classic "Epicus Doomicus Metallicus" and is more similar to their albums "Tales of Creation" and "Nightfall." Falconer - Grime Vs. Grandeur (Metal......
