Austinist Drinks A Lot Of Talks A Little Beer
Our first experience with Independence Brewing Company came just a few short years ago when browsing the beer aisle at a nearby Austin grocer. Shuffling past the quick favorites (Lone Star) and growing tired of the old standbys (Shiner) we noticed the logo of a shaggy-haired kid jumping, cannonball-style, into a pool not unlike Barton Springs. With curious minds and ever-growing sobriety, we jumped in and discovered what has quickly become one of our...

Birds + Booze + You
We realize we've been all over this since we first found out about it, but we live right next to these guys and we're thrilled about Birds Barbershop joining our neighborhood. They're throwing their mega opening all weekend long, starting with Mayor Will Wynn getting his hair did on Saturday morning. This will be followed up with a Grand Opening Hangover Party on Sunday night (because Monday's a holiday, obvs). DJs megaGATES and Chill Collins from We Explode! are doing turntable duty, and Tito's Vodka and Independence Brewery have generously supplied dionysian quantities of free booze.
We're Proud to Be Texan . . . Sometimes.
Today is Texas Independence Day, which used to be an official holiday, and now is just a day in Women’s History Month. Seriously though, those of us who have lived in Texas for most of our lives remember March 2 as Texas Independence Day, even if we don’t get the day off. We are not always brimming over with pride for our state, but today we'll think of the things we love about Texas...

Booze and Books (Celebrate the 25th Birthday of the Writers' League of Texas)
We love writers and we love alcohol. And we love Texas. Therefore, you could probably deduce that we love the Writers' League of Texas, as well. You would be right. That is why we will be celebrating their 25th Birthday with them this Sunday at Stubb’s. The Writers' League promotes literacy and elevates the literary arts, one group of the arts that we feel does not get the attention or funding it deserves. So...
Hey, Independence Brewery, Gimme One of Them Good Jasperillas
The good folks over at the delicious Independence Brewery have come out with their very first seasonal brew: Jasperilla Old Ale. The ale, which carries a slight citrus note balanced by a smooth hop finish, is named after the brewery’s dog, Jasper. The new brew will be perfect to drink out on the porch on the cool nights ahead. We can’t wait. And if you want to get a taste of the Jasperilla, you should head on down for the Repeal of Prohibition Brewery Tour this Saturday. Celebrate the 72nd anniversary of the repeal of Prohibition at Independence Brewery with a tour featuring info about Prohibition-era brewing. As an added treat, they will also be offering samples of the Jasperilla Old Ale along with their other fine offerings during the tour. And in other great news, you can now get Independence six-packs at Whole Foods Downtown and Central Market Westgate (starting Friday).
