Now in their sixth year, South Congress mainstay Home Slice Pizza will bring back their popular Carnival O' Pizza in two short weeks on Saturday, November 19th. The all-ages event runs from noon to 9pm and features a variety of pizza-themed carnival games that are meant to evoke a New York and Coney Island vibe. Admission is free, and everyone is welcome.

Music By the Slice [SXSW Party Preview]
For the sixth time in a row, Home Slice Pizza is playing host to Music By the Slice, featuring a whopping thirty bands in just three days. If the words "free music" stir your SXSW-loving heart, then surely the phrase "free with no RSVP or wristband required" stirs your heart even more vigorously, and, when it's not only free with no RSVP or wristband required and the event directly benefits a super cool nonprofit organization, well, that's just almost too much. And this, folks, is just such an event.
Sponsor a HOE at This Saturday's Home Slice Carnival O' Pizza [Benefits]
One of the highlights of the yearly festival is the Hands on an Eggplant Sub competition, which pits contestants against one another in a marathon contest to see who can keep their grubby paws on said sandwich for the longest. The winner scores a year of free Home Slice pizza—former champ Seth Mazow went so far as to blog about his experience. This year, they're letting folks sponsor one of the five chosen participants, and with Mazow having relocated to California, it's anyone's guess which of these challengers will end up sticking around the longest.
Food + Doing Good: An Amazing "Food Fight" Auction
This morning, Les Dames d'Escoffier posted their 2nd annual Food Fight auction online. The organization provides scholarships for women pursuing careers in the culinary arts, so winners can feel good about donating for the prizes. And what prizes there are! Some our favorites:

Home Slice’s 4th Annual Carnival-O-Pizza Benefits Austin Pets Alive
South Congress eatery Home Slice Pizza's annual Carnival-O-Pizza offers all the trappings of a festive fête to share in the successes of a thriving local business—carnival-style booths, raffles, live music, zany contests, and loads of beer and pizza. But more than that, as co-owner Jen Strickland points out, it's also a way to give back to the community and a nod to the festivals of her youth.
Happy Birthday, Home Slice
The dough throwers over at Home Slice Pizza have been serving up New York style slices from its South Congress location for three years now. And in what has become a birthday tradition the folks there are hosting a carnival on Saturday in celebration of the milestone.

Austinist Presents Local Music is Sexy IV
On the eve of ACL Fest, we're gonna turn off our laptops, put on our drinking shoes, and head over to the Mohawk, because Austinist is hosting Local Music is Sexy IV. An annual tradition since its inception in 2005 (back when the 'hawk was the Velvet Spade, and folks were still arguing over the smoking ban), Local Music is Sexy showcases a bunch of promising young Austin bands and DJs that we're most excited...
South Austin's Breakthrough Pizza Joint
Although it may just look like a pizza stand parked in a Mobil gas station on Barton Skyway and South Lamar, Giovanni's Pizza Stand may be one of the greatest South Austin pizza joints since Austin's Pizza (Ed Note: and Home Slice Pizza, ahem). Barton Hills residents don't have far to look for value-priced pizza with a ton of toppings to satisfy their hunger after a jump in Barton Springs, a spin around The...
Austinist Interviews SXSW: Luminous Orange
For 15 years, Yokohama's Luminous Orange have been crafting a sound of equal parts gentle Kim Deal-style female vocals, noisy guitar feedback, and rhythms that owe debts to both shoegaze and Sonic Youth. The resolutely indie-rock Japanese outfit makes a return visit to SXSW next month after a successful trip in 2006. Austinist spoke with Luminous Orange founder and vocalist/guitarist Rie Takeuchi about the band's SXSW experiences, along with their general distaste for Texas'...

Slice-O-Rama Pizza Carnival Marks Homeslice Pizza's First Birthday
We like pizza. We also like carnivals. We hate clowns, but that is entirely our issue. Anyway, Home Slice Pizza will celebrate their one-year anniversary this Saturday with a big honkin' carnival from 12-5pm and will donate the proceeds to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas.
Home Slice (of fresh sandwich bread!) Please
We've been enjoying eating at Home Slice Pizza since it opened many months ago. Apparently so have a lot of other people because every time we go the place is hopping. We almost always go for a slice of cheese and a side salad. Both seem to hit the spot just right. Recently, though, we ventured into the sandwich domain and got one of those fancy subs they offer. We ordered the Veggie, of...
Austinist Artist Profile: ZYKOS
Mike Booher looks like a rock star until he smiles. Tall and lanky, shaggy black hair, smoking a cigarette outside his practice room, he is a throwback to the Ramones. Then he grins, waves, and he’s the friendly guy everyone loves. Who just happens to be the front man for Austin’s much-hyped Zykos.
The Rumors Are True!
Yes, it’s true: Home Slice Pizza is finally open! After much preparation, Home Slice Pizza opened its doors last Thursday.
