The City of Pflugerville has reached a deal with NewQuest Properties to develop a million square foot strip mall at the southwest corner of the intersection of Toll Road 45 and Toll Road 130. The deal? NewQuest builds the strip mall and Pflugerville gives NewQuest $13.2 million. The proposed major anchors for the strip mall are a Super Target and a Home Depot. Cat Callen, mayor of Pflugerville, said "Pflugerville has a real need for more retail establishments to serve its residents, but not bad enough that we would be satisfied with a plain box surrounded by a parking lot." We're not sure what she means, because the site plan approved by the city looks a lot like a plain box surrounded by a parking lot. Is she really that excited about the limestone-encrusted signs?

Texas artist and sculptor Luis Jimenez was killed in a studio accident (read: squished by a massive horse) on Tuesday leaving behind quite a legacy. In a largely under-reported undertaking, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE – what a freakin’ scary acronym) has been rounding up undocumented workers around town. While a large raid was reported in Hutto last week, the operations in Austin have yet to draw any mainstream attention.
