Tired of the same old gay bar scene in Austin? Want to bust the mold a bit and cut loose on the dance floor without getting sandwiched by two sweaty, shirtless, writhing circuit boys? Go Dance Studios on Anderson Lane is launching a new program for same-sex partners called Out Dancing.

Miles, 42, is being sued for a laundry list of items after witnesses claim he crashed a holiday party, yelled obscenities, brandished a gun and got his snog on with another man's wife. Oh, and in addition to compensatory and punitive damages, the suit also requests that Miles submit a blood sample to be tested for STDs.

Achilles' Last Stand: Led Zeppelin to play gig this evening in London for the first time in decades in honor of deceased Atlantic record mogul Ahmet Ertegun. Show is rumored to be their last. US President hopeful Mike Huckabee appears to be gaining ground, which is quite interesting considering his shockingly inhumane views on carriers of the HIV virus, for example. Another interest rate cut expected by the Fed to counter-balance more sub-prime mortgage...

Our pals at Project Transitions will host the 12th Annual Texas Swing fundraiser this Friday. Project Transitions - the only nonprofit organization in Central Texas that provides hospice and housing programs for individuals and families living with HIV/AIDS - raised more than $37,000 during last year's Texas Swing with more than 700 people attending. Texas Swing is a family-friendly event that features live music by local favorite Alvin Crow, barbeque by Scholz’s, and free...

If you have already failed and re-upped your New Year’s resolutions more times than you can count, take heart – tomorrow is another day (to fail). No, but seriously, we're fortunate to live in a town where there's a whole subculture of masochists who organize events around such activities as running, biking, swimming, and various combinations thereof. Looking for a torturous fun way to get outside and get your body moving? Then why not...

AIDS Services of Austin (ASA), which provides critical services for some 1,500 local individuals with HIV each year, derives a significant portion of its operating income from its annual ArtErotica fundraising event. Unfortunately, last week's venue closures have rendered their former space, Blue Genie, no longer viable for the 700-person event. As such, ArtErotica 2007, originally scheduled for this Saturday evening, is now postponed. The Octopus Club, the volunteer arm of ASA that coordinates this...

Reformed hard-partying first daughter and UT Austin grad Jenna Bush has just signed to HarperCollins to publish what's being billed as a "young-adult, narrative non-fiction project."

Guess who's coming to dinner. It might be you - if you're down with eating at the homes of local dignitaries while benefitting Project Transitions (a non-profit organization that provides housing, hospice and support services for individuals and families living with HIV/AIDS in Central Texas). On Saturday, February 3, 2007, Project Transitions hosts the 10th Annual Guess Who's Coming to Dinner fundraiser to benefit people living with HIV/AIDS. Over 350 guests are anticipated to...

Until next Monday, October 16th, the QSA will be holding events from early in the morning til late in the evening--from rallies, conferences, workshops, movies and an AIDS walk at Waterloo Park. • You all remember Winnie Cooper from the Wonder Years. She's since developed a mathematical theorem.
  • In Katy, a 35 year old woman mothered an 11 year old's child. Consider that when choosing a babysitter next time.
  • Just say no to cheap beer. Seattle is.
  • California prisons will soon be distributing condoms due to the extremely high rate of HIV within.
  • Mayor Daley of Chicago is proposing the 13th grade. We think 0-grade might fly better with the kids.
  • Ummm, we lost about $242 in rent money somewhere along Highway 50 in Paddock Lake, Wisconsin the other day... yeah.

Now participating for the seventh year, Austin's memorial service will start with Mayor Will Wynn lighting the first candle and reading a...

We’ll just come right out and say it: it’s a slow week in Austin performance. Our normally buoyant theatre and dance communities seem to be taking a break, gearing up for what looks to be an amazing summer. Before the UT kids come traipsing back into town in August, we’ll have seen productions from Rude Mechs’ Second Stage, Salvage Vanguard, Yellow Tape Construction Co, Dirigo Group, Rubber Repertory, Hyde Park Theatre, Zach Scott Theatre,...

We're pretty sure this is what Derek Zoolander was getting at when he said there's more to life than being really, really good looking. On Sunday, May 7th, Top Drawer Thrift Store is hosting their very own runway fashion show, "Top Drawer Couture", an event to raise money and awareness for Project Transitions. Austin’s Almost Impatient style team is creating the clothing for the event, taking items found in the thrift store and altering them...

Actually, at the risk of sounding crass, what we really need at this point is your money. You see, this Saturday, while you and your hedonistic friends are gallivanting around Eeyore’s Birthday Party, we’ll be slogging up hill after hill on our bike as part of the Hill Country Ride for AIDS. This annual event raises money to provide essential services to hundreds of people living with HIV/AIDS in Central Texas. As government funding for such services continues to be cut, the beneficiary organizations rely more and more on the money raised from this ride to help the people who desperately need their assistance.

Well, it’s far enough into the new year that we’ve already broken most (if not all) of our resolutions. But one of our resolutions was not to let the fact that we broke our initial resolutions keep us from resolving to do other good things throughout the year. Or something like that.

Today is World AIDS Day. Think we’ve made progress in fighting this horrible disease? Perhaps, but there is still a long, long way to go. Did you know that there were 5 million new infections last year?  5 million!  Every one is a daughter, son, mother, father, neighbor, co-worker, friend, or spouse who may not be sure how they'll make it with their new diagnosis.  In other parts of the world and even in this country, many folks in need have no access to life-saving medications or even preventive measures. No time is better than now to do something to help right here in our own community. What can you do? Try volunteering for one of the local agencies that help people in Central Texas living with HIV/AIDS. Here are just a few, with their corresponding mission statements:
