Every November the Hideout Theatre, Austin's longest running improv theater, hosts WaffleFest, a local improv festival rounding up representatives from Austin's diverse improv scene and serving up as many waffles as you can eat. WaffleFest is in it's Eighth year. There will be long-form improv, short-form improv, improvised narratives, and improvised musicals. Don't know what this means? Been interested in seeing Austin improv but didn't know where to start? WaffleFest may help you sort some of this out and introduce you to a number of great acts that perform regularly around town.

Austinist Show Preview: This Will Destroy You, Balmorhea, and Bexar Bexar at the The Hideout
This Will Destroy You is a hyperbole with a wink, but only slightly. Masters of the thrash-y guitar climax borne of humble, pensive expositions, there's a lot to blow your hair back, and if you just had a messy break-up or a secondary relative die, you're probably going to be more susceptible to actual - albeit, temporary - destruction by the moving instrumental anthems they craft.
Austinist Review: KA-BAAM Is a Hit!
We had more fun watching this show than we did seeing Chicago's famed improv group Second City. We enjoyed this more than some of the of the stuff we've seen off-Broadway! Of course, since this is an improvised show—meaning the characters and situations are created on the spot—the show we saw most certainly won't be the show you'll see. Yet we trust that any group putting on something so fresh and vibrant one weekend will be able to reproduce the magic in the next performance. Watching a comedy show like this is sort of like visiting the farmer's market. You see fresh eggs and tomatoes every week, but you don't see exactly the same eggs, now do you?
