Live Review: Henry Rollins at La Zona Rosa

Live Review: Henry Rollins at La Zona Rosa

Part motivational speaker, part armchair political scientist, part hack comedian, and 100% self-promotion, Henry Rollins brought his one-man spoken word show, Recountdown 2008, to a packed La Zona Rosa Sunday night. Folding chairs were laid out from the stage to the back of the room, but even so, a spillover audience filled out the wings and spots by the bar. Looking decades younger than his 47 years, Rollins spoke for well over two hours, hunching over his mic as if it were a live snake, and never missed a beat. more ›

Giveaway: Rollins Speaks Sunday Night!

Giveaway: Rollins Speaks Sunday Night!

It was a long hard road that brought Henry Rollins from the frontman position for the greatest hardcore band of all time ever to his present gig as a middling standup comedian. But come on, the man lived in a tool shed for longer than some people go to college so he could gargle Evian wearing a tutu and we'd probably still pay good money for the privilege. more ›

Austinist Preview: Henry Rollins @ La Zona Rosa Wednesday

Henry Rollins is tearing across the country on the "Provoked" spoken word tour, billed as "An evening of quintessentially American opinionated editorializing and storytelling." He's also done some brilliant television work. For example, check out the potentially misogynistic letter to Ann... more ›

Music Mondays Presents The Ghost On The Highway: The Story of the Gun Club

Music Mondays Presents The Ghost On The Highway: The Story of the Gun Club

In the early 80s, as punk was splintering into countless subgenres, bands like The Cramps, X and Social Distortion were making their mark by mixing hard-driving rock with American roots music and country. And though LA’s Gun Club may not have achieved the notoriety or success of the aforementioned bands, they were arguably just as big an influence on modern American blues-punk. Fronted by the wild, unpredictable Jeffrey Lee Pierce – by all accounts the... more ›
