The going line for Babyshambles reviews seems to be: “Just ignore the tabloid stuff, the music is good.” What? Why? Half the punch of Down in Albion, Babyshambles’ debut, was the voyeurism and the subtext. To Have Or Have Not isn’t really Howard Hawks’ best, but we watch it because Bogart and Bacall are falling in love in front of our eyes. Pete Doherty was deteriorating on Albion, a Polaroid of the tabloids’ teetering man-child.......

Birds Barbershop is opening a new north location this September, on 6800 Burnet Road across from Curra's Grill. This shop's decor theme is old-school roller rink arcades. (It would be ultra-rad if you could skate there, too.) Until then, you'll have to get your Ladybirds and 'Hawks trimmed at the South Lamar location. Birds is also sponsoring the Alamo Drafthouse's Austin Air Guitar Finals this Thursday at the Parish, which means they'll be styling the......

We've been keeping our ear to the street to bring you the following unsubstantiated restaurant closing rumors. Nau's West Campus: Their burgers and chocolate shakes kept us fed in school. Their chili is great added to almost anything on the menu. The last of......

Our favorite local posts for this week: Jette's pal saw Tarantino at the Paramount's Howard Hawks double feature this week. We would have been on the Ameche to our pals if we had seen him at the showing of Ball of Fire. Over at sheep diaries, the term "Shyamalaned" is defined and put to use in a rant on Lady in the Water. As we looked at bigYELLOWbowl, we wondered: does this place make......

The NBA Draft takes place tonight in New York City, and besides the annual fun of watching young athletes in their Sunday finest (we’re looking at you, Chuck Person) as they walk up to the podium to shake hands with the commish and awkwardly don their new teams caps, Texas basketball fans will be watching intently to see what happens with their teams, as well as the fates of former Longhorns LaMarcus Aldridge, P.J. Tucker......

Howard Hawks once defined a good movie as containing three great scenes and no bad ones. The Omen remake, which opens today, has only two great scenes (oddly, both of them involve food), and even they can’t stand up to the flood of mediocre-to-laughable action that transpires elsewhere in this interminable thing. Anyone remember the original, directed with style and pizazz by Richard Donner and starring the impeccable Gregory Peck? Just rent that movie,......
