On Wednesday at the Salvage Vanguard theatre, a character named Ethan Master of the Hawaiian Ukulele stripped down to his bathing suit, donned a hat and colorful lei, and then stood on his amp to proclaim, via song, “I heard noise-pop is in.” You know Ethan, you might be right. And leading the fray are none other than our own Peel, a magnanimously kick-ass band whose bits of unbridled feedback and synthesizer explosions are balanced with a collective appreciation for the types of melodies that make ears smile. With some out-of-town friends, Peel will play The Mohawk this Sunday as a fitting end to a great week of music.

We got our oil changed at the Jiffy Lube on Oltorf and 35 this morning. We highly recommend this Jiffy Lube as they've got an early bird discount ($19.99 for an oil change, 7-10 on week days) and their staff is incredibly friendly. There's also a Starbucks right next door, which is handy if you're in need of some early morning caffeine, which we were.

Austinist extends our best wishes to Texas legend Roger Clemens today, his 43rd birthday. Clemens is defying age and science once again in another performance worthy of the Cy Young Award. Clemens, a seven-time winner of the award, is putting up mind boggling numbers, as he and the other Astros' starters have propelled the team to the top of the Wild Card pack.
