Food + Drink: Zhi Tea Throws SXSW Day Party This Thursday
SXZT will be a tea party worthy of St. Paddy's Day, fueled by free sweet tea-infused vodka, and a performance from South Korea's Apollo 18, who are on their first American tour. Proceeds will benefit HAAM, the Health Alliance of Austin Musicians.
Music News: 5th Annual HAAM Benefit Day Today!
In order to keep Austin the "Live Music Capital of the World', those hard-working musicians have to stay healthy. Last year, HAAM Benefit Day raised $164,000 for just that purpose through donations from businesses and individuals. Today everyone has the chance to help surpass the 2009 amount by eating out, sending a text message, or checking out a live show!
Memorial Service for Aaron S. Williams this Saturday
This Saturday, the Austin Art + Music Partnership will host a service commemorating the life of Aaron S. Williams. Williams, a co-founder and director of the local non-profit, passed away last week. He spent a good chunk of the last two decades helping local artists and musicians acquire the necessities needed for a fruitful career in town.
Party for a Cause with Pixel Pop at the Mohawk
Fashion, art and music collide this Friday at the Mohawk for the first ever Pixel Pop event. The brainchild of From the Mind of Adi, Electric Promotions and Team Fabrication, Pixel Pop is a fusion of live fashion, visual art, comic books and local music.
HAAM Announces New Board Chair, Staff
Health Alliance for Austin Musicians announced some board and staff changes today. The new chairman of the Board of Directors is Tim Taylor, partner at Jackson Walker LLP and three-time chair of the organization’s HAAM Benefit Day Committee. They also announced new additions to the board: Chris Adams of Maxell Locke & Ritter, Madge Vasquez and Earl Maxwell, both of St. David's Foundation, and Howard Yancy of Zydeco Development. The new Assistant Director of Services is Jennifer Stowe.
Giveaway: VIP Passes to Free JET Concert [Friday]
Propelled by irresistible anthems such as “Are You Gonna Be My Girl” and “Cold Hard Bitch,” Australia’s JET fast became a staple of mainstream radio a few years ago on the heels of their debut full-length Get Born. The band formed during the early part of this decade, releasing the Dirty Sweet EP in 2002 and immediately gaining the attention of U.K. hype-mongers NME and probably more importantly, Elektra Records. 3rd HAAM Benefit Raises $150,000
The Health Alliance for Austin Musicians benefit day back in October was a huge success, raising $150,000. With the funds, the 3 1/2-year-old HAAM can sustain high-quality services for its members, "the city's hard-working, professional musicians, self-employed and without health insurance." Since March 2005, HAAM has raised a total of more than $1 million. (myhaam.org)
Austinist <3s HAAM: Room 710 Hosts Benefit Day Party, Super Pal Universe Entertains the Kids
In case you weren't aware, there are thousands of working musicians in Austin, many of whom don't have health insurance. The Health Alliance for Austin Musicians has existed for three years, working daily to provide low-cost primary health care services, basic dental care and mental health counseling for Austin-area musicians and their families.
