Somehow I overlooked the first couple of years of Fx3 as a transplant to Austin still elated and overwhelmed by the plethora of accessible live music available on the regular. But in 2009, I scored a cozy introduction manning a booth at the fest for a few hours one day in exchange for a weekend wristband. Why not, right? I had no idea what to expect and found myself pleasantly surprised by the laid back scene - not too crowded, manageable lines for beer/food, and a good mix of fans. I have since happily resigned any interest I once had in attending ACL for a yearly fling with Fun Fun Fun. And while I adore the excitement and unparalleled buzz SXSW generates, the intimacy of Fx3 has made it my favorite of Austin’s fests. more ›

If you shied away from shelling out forty bills for Saturday night’s Wu-Tang Clan show, you can start kicking yourself now -- believe it or not, (ODB aside) they all showed up! Call it a comeback, or a Christmas miracle, but the Killah Bees swarmed the stage. We’ve been checking the official Fun Fest website everyday for updates but having not seen any new announcements for a while, we gathered our technical experts last night. After a few hours of brainstorming, our team conjured up a moment of brilliance and hacked into the Fun Fest mainframe. GZA, aka The Genius, aka Gary Grice has released another record, his sixth, Pro Tools, and he’s definitely still flexing his intellectual muscle, as he’s known to do in his rhymes. Anyone with even at least a rusty working knowledge of Wu-Tang should remember this MC and hopefully even his most-praised solo release, Liquid Swords, which is kind of legendary in many hip hop circles. more ›
