Manic Street Preachers - Send Away The Tigers: Over a decade removed from their masterpiece Everything Must Go, the Manics seem to finally return to the stadium-rock sounds of that album on Send Away The Tigers. While not as strong as Everything, the new album has several bright spots, most notably the so-cheesy-it's-awesome duet "Your Love Alone Is Not Enough" with The Cardigans' Nina Persson. While there are some awfully clunky lyrics ("I'm just a patsy for your love..."), and an occasional guitar line that sounds way too much like "Sweet Child O' Mine", this is a return to what the Manics do best: talking personal politics and rocking some Welsh angst. It's what Muse might hope to sound like if they weren't writing about spaceships and the apocalypse and such.

When Grey's Anatomy first started, we were instantly drawn in. The Seattle-based show had an indie soundtrack, a female creator, a multiracial cast, our pre-teen crush Patrick Dempsey and the excellent Sandra Oh. The show seemed so fresh and new. Since then, Meredith's whiny tone has become an annoying recurrence, Sandra Oh's depiction of Cristina isn't as enthralling as it once was, the George/Izzie coupling is just disturbing, and the drama outside of the show...
Alt.Country, power pop, loud rockabilly, and love songs. If you enjoy any or all of the things we've just mentioned, make it a priority to head to Stubb's tonight. For almost 15 years, Dallas-based The Old 97's have been playing a mixture of the music they love. The band started on Bloodshot Records as a loud, rough-hewn alt.country bar band, then slowly evolved their sound into something catchy and polished enough that the love songs from 2001's Satellite Rides would have fit in fine on a Grey's Anatomy montage. In fact, the band were recently featured in an extended scene in the Vince Vaughan film The Break-Up, and indie-rock whipping boy Zach Braff has also placed their songs in some Scrubs episodes.
[The following is an editorial column by contributor Alison Coffey and does not necessarily reflect the views of the Austinist staff. --The Editors] I realize that I should be blogging about the new season of 24, but four hours of Jack Bauer and company is a lot to commit to, and so it's waiting on my DVR for a few long evenings of reruns. Or at least next weekend. Instead, let's talk about Grey's...
Thanksgiving: a time for celebrating family, eating food, and of course, watching TV. Well, we're here to recommend some options: The given: "Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade", 9am, NBC/KXAN. The random: Twelve hours of Doris Day films on TCM, starting at 5am. Pigs at Thanksgiving?: Babe on NBC/KXAN, 2pm. Katie pre-TomKat: One of our favorite Thanksgiving films, Pieces of April, is on IFC at 4:15pm. What Not to Wear on Thanksgiving: What Not to Wear...
She's arty, but her songs are as catchy as hell. She was an anti-folk regular on the New York club scene, but also hangs out with The Strokes. Tonight, Antone's hosts the entertaining contradicton that is Regina Spektor in a sold out show. Spektor's latest album Begin To Hope has received accolades from NPR, Pitchfork, The Onion, and Rolling Stone, so we suppose that just about everyone likes it. The disc is a blend of...

The Mercers, behind the leadership of frontman Peter Wagner, formed at the beginning of 2006. Wagner and bass player Bryan Ray had previously played in local band Choking Ahogo, but they wanted to change the direction of their sound and lyrical content. Enter keyboardist Will Cornforth, guitarists Erik Ray and Nate De Lacretaz, and the most recent addition, drummer Ethan Herr. The group produces a sound reminiscent of the Doves, Psychedelic Furs and early R.E.M....

[The following is a new editorial column by contributor Alison Coffey and does not necessarily reflect the views of the Austinist staff. --The Editors] Welcome to my new tv column. The title is a sort of roundabout homage to Knowing Me, Knowing You, the wonderful failed talk show of the infamous (and fictional) Alan Partridge on the BBC, which in turn is a nod to that ABBA song. I have to thank our editor...

This is the first post from our new contributor, Elizabeth... Now that you've gone to all the free museums you can, surely you need something to do this evening. So here's where we remind you that the Emmys are on tonight (7pm, KEYE CBS42). We don't make as much of an effort to watch the Emmys as we do to watch the Oscars (and yes, even the Golden Globes). We still have opinions on...
