About a year ago, a video of a twenty-something gal dancing on a New York ferry to music by Girl Talk started making the rounds. Now the full-length film, Girl Walk // All Day will be shown at SXSW 2012 as a Special Events screening.

Snapshots: Girl Talk at Austin Music Hall
Gregg Gillis, aka Girl Talk, played to a sold-out crowd at Austin Music Hall on Friday night and Austinist photographer Trent Lesikar captured all the sorority / fraternity, under-age / way-too-old booty shaking.
Girl Talk to Play 40 Acres Fest
UT's Music and Entertainment Committee presents the annual Forty Acres Fest, happening April 10 at the Main Mall in Front of the Tower on campus. This year, the music will be provided by the incomparable Girl Talk.
Girl Talk brings sweaty sophistication to Emo’s on a Monday
We’re still ringing the sweat from our shirts, but a Girl Talk show is a sure fire way to spice up a weeknight.
Preview: Born Ruffians, Plants and Animals at Emo's
So, in case you haven't heard, there's this little performance going on tonight at Emo's. This little sold out show by some mish-masher called Girl Talk. And say you were one of the unfortunate many who slept on buying tickets, and now you're locked out of one of the hottest Monday nights in months. Well, there's no need to fret or weep or pity yourself into your pillow, because you should know there's another option tonight, and it's not sold out, and as a matter of convenience, it's actually in the same venue as the night's "pretty big deal." So, without further ado, your official "next best thing" (or "best thing," if you're one of those who think Girl Talk's a hack, and we know you're out there): Canada's Born Ruffians, with support from fellow countrymen Plants and Animals, will be bringing the sound to Emo's Inside, and, actually, both of these bands are pretty darn swell, even if they do suffer from making their own music on true-to-life instruments.
New Release Tuesday: Girl Talk's Feed the Animals
When we talked to Gillis back in 2007, we spoke of the culture clash he used to experience when he was still spending 9 to 5 as a biomedical researcher in Pittsburgh, and the multiple lives he inhabited between friends, family and co-workers. "My mom listens to Night Ripper while jogging, and my dad jams it on his iPod while mowing the lawn," he said. This portrait of comfortable dichotomy exists with Animals as well, and its hinted at before you even press play -- the quiet suburban house and its flaming yard intimate the nightlife persona's intrusion into normalcy, but then again, no one ever said this whole thing wasn't about normalcy invading the party scene. Likewise, "Feed the Animals" can be mentally summoned with images of tigers or tabbys, and that subtle brilliance is exactly what has made Girl Talk the benchmark in party music.
Austinist Show Preview: White Williams at Emo's
We understood that Cleveland, Ohio was known for rock music, but for subtly bouncy electronic art pop? We we dubious until we discovered that the midwestern mecca is the origin of Joe Williams, whose project White Williams will be stopping through our fair city tonight at Emo's for a show opened by Rings (New York) and Cry Blood Apache (Austin).

Stage three was...

Fun Fest Follow Up With Gregg Gillis of Girl Talk
Photo of Girl Talk by Davis AyersGregg Gillis didn't have a chance to stop by and say hello during Fun Fun Fun Fest, but he was kind enough to get in touch yesterday and share his thoughts on the weekend in general. As expected, he was happy with his crowd, the stage and his set, despite his previous experiences at festivals. Before his set, the eager crowd was already teeming with nervous excitement, perhaps recalling...

Austinist Festival Giveaway: Small talk about Girl Talk & DJ Jester
We’ll admit it. We love Girl Talk. The sight of some normal looking person leaning over the laptop on a stage generating all kinds of musical mayhem is pretty standard nowadays. And there is no one we’d rather prefer at the helm than this Pittsburgh lad named Gregg Gillis. Gillis shared his past Austin experiences while also commenting on his “trial and error” approach to assembling beats when we last spoke with him leading up...

Ear to the Ground: White Williams Tonight With Dan Deacon
By now, the media buzz surrounding blogger darling and dance party curator Dan Deacon has made his upcoming gig at Mohawk chatter-worthy (after his performance at Emo's earlier this summer, party animals who missed the event started marking their calendars) and his career absolutely viable: he's toured with Girl Talk, and only needs to press 'play' to get a news item on Pitchfork. Rather than remind you (again) to go check him out, we'd...
Fun Fun Fun Fest Looks Hot Hot Hot
What a difference a year makes—certainly in the case of this fledgling music festival. Last December's inaugural Fun Fun Fun Fest featured over two dozen bands and DJs, and showcased a good variety of indie rock, punk, and electronic music. This year, they've grown even bigger, better, and bolder: the second annual installment will span two days and has been pushed ahead by a month, to November 3rd and 4th. Staying true to their...
DJ Z-Trip feat. Aceyalone at The Parish
Z-Trip is one of the foremost live DJs on the planet at the moment. Many would say he pioneered the art of the mash-up before it got ruined by gimmicks and Girl Talk, his independent debut Uneasy Listening is a classic, and he's a festival-headlining rock star in Europe and Australia. Combining the dark atmospherics of DJ Shadow (a close friend) with party-starting club bangers, his sets are perfectly paced with drama to spare....
Car Stereo (Wars) CD Release this Saturday
What's that, you say? DJs don't release albums? Uh, have you ever heard of Girl Talk? The DJ Kicks series? The prolific DJ Shadow? It happens. A lot. And tomorrow night, it's happening at Beauty Bar: Austin's Car Stereo (Wars) will release its first ever LP, The Bandit, to the accompanying sounds of cacophonous rockers White Denim, found-sounds rockers Single Frame, and guest DJ sets by Team Fabrication, Josh Mills (of Clap! Clap!), and Terry...
SXSW Hangovers: Austinist Top Fives for SXSW 2007
We don't remember much of SXSW but of what we can remember, we think we had a pretty kickass time. During the week of March 13th to the 17th, we were out surviving on what little we had time to consume (usually free, alcoholic or "containing artificial flavors"), catching every bit of sanctioned and unsanctioned SXSW goodness. While we were out on the streets and bars of Austin, we began to realize a lot...
Overheard at SXSW: What We Saw, What We Loved, And WTF?
Let's be honest: everyone loves SXSW week, but when it ends, you are secretly very ready to move on. Before we do, let's take a look at some of the isolated, crazy, and wonderful moments that make SXSW such an over-the-top sensory experience. – The dude at Girl Talk dancing with a broken pinata on his head. Then passing said pinata to someone else to dance with. – Isaac Hayes talking in his famous...

Austinist Interviews SXSW: Menomena
Our interviews with SXSW bands have been appearing fast and furious on the site lately. From Girl Talk to My Latest Novel, we’ve been blessed with some great responses. Justin Harris, bass and sax player for Portland’s Menomena might now be our favorite interviewee. Menomena specializes in experimental pop-rock, with no clear formula, but plenty of invigorating innovation (thanks to band member Brent Knopf’s Deeler, short for Digital Looping Recorder). We caught up with Harris recently, and found him a bit obsessed with harmful insects, be it the Vespula Vulagaris, W.A.S.P., or simply Sting.
Austinist Interviews SXSW: Girl Talk
In the last year, Greg Gillis' Girl Talk has become a sort of household name for the music community at large as his third full length album, was #7 on our year end list here at Austinist (follow the link to read our review of it), and we can't wait to see what the live show brings at SXSW. Recently we had a chance to hear from Gillis himself on his life in the Pittsburgh medical research community, his last experience in Austin, and his thoughts on the mash-up.

As SX07 approaches, we'll be keeping you informed on all of the official confirmations, rumors, and non-SX events that we feel are worth your attention. With January's arrival, a lot of news has surfaced in the past few days. Austinist's Top 15 Albums Of 2006
15. Mogwai - Mr. Beast (Matador) As ever, Mogwai manage to blend unadulterated post-rock weight to their shoegazer tendencies with tracks like "Glasgow Mega Snake" and "Folk Death 95," showcasing their ability to create anthems with no words. This is where Mr. Beast really shines, in between blistering chord progressions and gradual swings into corybantic climaxes. In some ways a throwback to earlier (and heavier) Mogwai material, Mr. Beast isn't merely a rock album....
