He’s a master of sampling and an early proponent of turntablism, but you won’t find Carl Stone working with Kanye any time soon. Instead, throughout his musical career, minimalist pioneer Stone has taken experimented with electronics and sound in a way that recalls his hero John Cage and other irrepressible avant-garde musicians of his ilk. more ›

The Password is "mezmerize"

A few weeks ago, System of a Down played an amazing sold-out show at the Music Hall. The only bad part about their performance was the lack of new material they played. After their Guerilla Tour, SoAD headed oversees to play a slew of European dates. Well guess who’s coming back along with The Mars Volta and Bad Acid Trip? We couldn’t really expect SoAD to play Austin again on their first major U.S. tour in 3 years, but they are playing at the SBC Center in San Antonio on Friday, August 12th. Now here’s the tricky part because there is in internet pre-sale going on that started today at 10 a.m. and lasts through tomorrow at 9 p.m. The tickets range in price from $31.15 to $43.65. However, the fun thing about this presale is that the best tickets available are at the Charter Level, which is the lowest area of the arena. So if you want to have a seat during the concert, this is gonna be your best bet. However, if you want to get down and dirty in the pit, General Admission tickets will be available this Saturday morning at 10 a.m. System of a Down’s latest release, "Mezmerize" recently debuted at number one with just under half a million sold. This event will sell out, so get your tickets as soon as you can. more ›

The Austinist feels the need to give a little love to Central Texas’ own minor league team – the Round Rock Express. more ›
