Last fall, the Pixies marked the 20th Anniversary of Doolittle with a tour across Europe and the U.S. where they played the entire album and its b-sides. They only covered 9 cities stateside during those dates (which included three nights at Hammerstein Ballroom in New York), so this month they started the tour back up again to cover a few more cities across the country.

Show Preview & Giveaway: Mogwai & Fuck Buttons at Stubb's
So this business is going to be LOUD. Let's get that off our chests, and then we'll be able to talk about this show in nice, reasonable voices, like grown adults who aren't going to push each other down on the playground. You know, if that's even possible, given the fact that talking about Mogwai—Scotland's renowned post-rock trendsetters and masters of the indomitable loud-soft dynamic—almost begs a person to scream and shout and knock shit around. Toss in the possibility that they are the less torrential of the two acts on this bill, and you should probably consider earplugs and a flak jacket. But really, that's just how much fun you're going to have, because people on MoPac are going to be able to hear this night at Stubb's.
Feature Interview [and show preview!]: Caribou
This Sunday night holds one the most dazzling shows of the year, as the ultra-critically-acclaimed Caribou and Fuck Buttons take the stage in a whir of electronic and live action wonderfulness. Opening up will be Fuck Buttons, who, for their part, are one of the most fascinating new musical outfits to make a splash in 2008. Their noise-driven electronic music is almost jarringly abrasive on its scratchy surface, yet rewards the patient listener with a hint of melody—truth be told, their new album Street Horrrsing is one of our recent faves. So, unquestionably, their presence on the bill should keep too many people from straggling in late through Emo's doors.
