Obama HQ in Downtown Austin
As we mentioned last week, Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama is setting up one of his campaign headquarters in Austin for the upcoming Texas Primary. Today we found out that the location for the offices will be downtown Austin, on the second floor of the old Frost Bank building at 816 Congress Avenue.

Frost Bank Tower Sold to Chicagoans
Our pal Frost Bank McFrostsalot has been sold by its developer, Cousins Properties Inc., to a Chicago-based real estate investment trust, Equity Office Properties Trust, for $188 million, which works out to about $354 per square foot. Don't worry ... Frosty is staying here, just under new ownership.
Downtown Monolith Breaks Ground
What's currently the abandoned Intel parking garage shell began its transformation into the future 360 Condominiums today. Once complete, the 44-story, 580-ft-tall mixed-use building at Nueces and Third (360 Nueces Street) will be taller than Frost Bank (515 feet), though still not as high as the future 675-ft-tall slab of glass at Fifth and Congress.
Frost Bank No Longer the Biggest Kid on the Block
The architects of the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, which were the world's tallest buildings before they got bitch slapped by Taipei 101, are bringing the skyscraper smackdown to Austin with a 675 foot tall tower on the corner of Fifth Street and Congress Avenue. That's right - close enough to Frost Bank to be able to drop a pair of proton torpedoes down the thermal exhaust port that leads directly the reactor core, causing a chain reaction...
Downtown Skyscraper For Sale
Downtown's Frost Bank Tower is up for grabs, according to Austin Business Journal. Cousins Properties, based in Atlanta, is moving onto its next phase in the company's business strategy of developing and flipping properties. Not that this will have much impact on most of us: at exactly 515' 9" tall, 33-stories high and boasting an astounding 524,000 sq-ft of prime office space, the city's highest building is already leased at roughly 81% capacity. A...
Austinist Reviews Danceworks Laboratory
The following review is from new contributor Jonathon. In modern dance, a "works-in-progress" showing is somewhere between a rough draft and a teaser – it's a sneak preview of work that'll show up later in the year as a longer, more polished product. Danceworks Laboratory, the latest works-in-progress showing from Sharir + Bustamante Danceworks, features the work of José Bustamante and two international choreographers in varying degrees of artistic readiness. Though we tried to go...
The Real World Recap: Episode Twelve
We watched episode twelve from a bed in the Hilton Hotel in mid-town Manhattan. We were on a business trip that we didn't particularly want to go on. We've been watching a lot of episodes on the road lately, and it's making us home sick. (We're actually writing this recap at Chicago's Midway airport.) And here's the thing -- seeing those silly shots of the Frost Bank building, the montages of Congress Ave and...
The votes are in, no re-count needed
The Austinist likes to read its sister publications, and we recently happened upon a story about skylines. Turns out, Austin’s skyline does not rank in the top 100 in the world, according to an article by Emporis, posted on the Chicagoist.
