James Holmes, the man behind fine dining restaurant Olivia's, is arguably one of Austin's favorite chefs, and his fried chicken is certainly one of Austin's favorite dishes. For the time being, you can only get your hands on his tasty, fried breasts and thighs during Olivia's weekend brunch, in the food court at ACL, or at Olivia's Fried Chicken Revival parties during SXSW. Tarleton State University students are making national headlines for recent pictures they posted on Facebook.com after hosting an MLK Day Party, where guests wore gang apparel, drank malt liquor, carried handguns and ate fried chicken. One girl even dressed as Aunt Jemima. The Smoking Gun has the pictures. The green chile is now in season and at its peak. To celebrate this in all its spicy glory, Chuy's has a Green Chile Festival every year for about a month. This year the fest takes place from August 29th-September 25th. Chuy's customers can select from a number of special dishes that are only available during the fest--dishes that pay homage to the green chile. There is the Elvis Green Chile Fried Chicken, the Chicken Enchiladas with Green Chile Avocodo Sauce, and even, lord help us all, Cinnamon Green Chile Apple Pie.
