Venue Change: Adele Coming to the Theatre at Frank Erwin Center

She was going to go to Stubb's, but given her popularity in Austin it seems that C3 has decided she needs some more room. Adele will perform at the Theatre at the Frank Erwin Center on October 19. From C3: "All non-refunded tickets for the Stubb’s show must be exchanged between July 8-15. Ticketholders for the Stubb’s show will be given priority to exchange their original tickets for premium tickets at The Frank Erwin Center between July 8 and July 15. Ticketholders will be contacted by Texas Box office at The Frank Erwin Center or Adele.tv (via sandbag) with detailed instructions on how to conduct their exchanges. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to seeing you at the show." More tickets will go on sale July 22 at 10 a.m. via Texas Box Office, Texas Box Office Outlets including select H-E-B stores or by phone at 512.477.6060. more ›

Gorillaz and N.E.R.D. : Snapshots and Review

             + 1 more

The Gorillaz show at the Frank Erwin Center was proof that while the old adage goes “less is more,” sometimes, in fact, more is more. Building a performance around a rotating cast of lead singers, 8-piece brass, strings, backup singers, two drummers, traditional Arab quintet, sometimes upwards of 25 people on stage, and a seamlessly integrated multimedia extravaganza, the show was astonishingly, utterly unlike anything else. more ›

Gorillaz at the Frank Erwin Center [Show Preview and Giveaway]

This month an ape-like entity will be taking over the Frank Erwin Center, and no, we're not talking about Curious George, though we very well could be. Instead, we're talking about the primate-centric hip-hop/rap collective Gorillaz, who will be stopping by in Austin to present their new, interactive, big ol' "Escape to Plastic Beach" tour show. more ›

Ticket Announcement: Kanye West Lights Up The Erwin Center

Ticket Announcement: Kanye West Lights Up The Erwin Center

After Van Halen, Bruce Springsteen, Radiohead, and Jay-Z all elected to skip Austin on their spring US tours, it's not unreasonable to feel that our music-loving town seems to be off the radar of the arena pop and rock circuit. This despite a perfectly functional (if rather dated) basketball arena smack in the center in town. Thankfully, the Louis Vuitton Don Kanye West agrees with you, and has elected to show Austin some big-production love with a date here at The Frank Erwin Center in late April. more ›

Austinist Show Giveaway: My Chemical Romance and Muse in San Antonio

It’s only fair in today’s fast paced world that a share of high profile stadium rockers counters the growing success of indie bands. The Killers play the Frank Erwin Center these days while fellow “take over the world” hopefuls, My Chemical Romance have their sights set on similar success with the last year’s The Black Parade. A grand concept album with a dark storyline (largely about a dying cancer patient’s retrospective of his life),... more ›

If the Wranglers Build It, Will You Come?

If the Wranglers Build It, Will You Come?

The Austin Wranglers, Austin's Arena Football League team, is looking into building a 14,000-seat arena. According to the Austin Business Journal, the team recently hired CSL Consulting Inc. of Dallas to do a study on whether the arena would make economic sense. Apparently the results showed that there is a demand for a venue of at least 10,000 seats to be built in the Austin suburbs. The Wranglers averaged just over 10,000 fans a game in the aging Frank Erwin Center, a venue they are forced to share with the Longhorns. more ›

Duke was a Fluke, Right?

After their dismal performance last week versus Duke, sixth-ranked UT will try to shake it off when they battle the Volunteers of Tennessee at the Frank Erwin Center today at 1 p.m. Instead of blaming the horrible black Nike jerseys or J.J.
