Fun Fest Comedian Profile: Todd Barry (Is Icky?)

That’s right. Someone who worships Conan O’Brien believes Todd Barry to be “Icky”. So that puts him amongst the ranks of Gonzo journalism and oh who gives a shit what O’Brien’s viewers think. Todd will be visiting Austin for Fun Fun Fun Fest 2009! But not to protest Eugene Mirman!

Like most of their lyrics, the band name Fujiya & Miyagi was chosen by its non-Japanese members simply because they thought it sounded pretty. The British electronic group focuses on piecing pleasant phrases together rather than complex musical insignias, but we're okay with that.

It's Business Time: Flight Of The Conchords in Austin on May 7

John and Paul. Mick and Keith. Roger and Pete. None of those famous duos are actually coming to Austin this spring, but you want to know who are turning up? Bret and Jemaine, aka Hip-Hopopotamus and Rhymenoceros, aka winner of the fake 2008 Grammys for best New Zealand act and best manager and the actual 2008 Grammy for Best Comedy Album. They're also in some show on HBO. Flight Of The Conchords will play the Bass Concert Hall at the University of Texas on May 7th for all the ladies of the world (and anyone else who'd like to purchase a ticket.)

He can also be seen as Jemaine and Bret's strange landlord in HBO's Flight Of The Conchords. A multi-year veteran of SXSW, Mirman is hosting this year's Web Awards at SXSW Interactive and is also performing at multiple SX venues during the music festival.

This year's SXSW Music lineup seems to be taking shape a bit more quickly than last year, as bands have taken it upon themselves to announce showcases publicly before the official list release by SX organizers. This is a departure from prior years, but since festival officials aren't complaining, we assume they're happy to let the hype build as the acts trickle in. This week's top twelve additions:

Nic’s songwriting shines through on their EP, Passages, while Heather’s vocal assistance along with assorted instrumentation provide the structure for Nic’s lyricism to take center stage. Passages was recorded after Casados played close to 50 shows and the EP’s precise musicianship bears the fruit of the many performances. Opener “Panama” could well be the first song on any mix for...
