As if this weather hasn't been enough to get even the laziest of Austinites out and running, Paul Carrozza and his team over at RunTex are creating even more reasons to get out and about in 2008. Over the course of this month, the Lake Austin Boulevard RunTex will be stripped of its retail shelves—in its place will be a running institution aimed at consulting, training, and creating various fitness programs and seminars for local athletes....

Between claiming that we need more highways no matter how we pay for them and promoting Smithville as an affordable alternative to living in Austin (commute to Austin, Houston or San Antonio!), it was easy to miss the Statesman's publication of a new rant by developer Ed Wendler, Jr., in which Wendler points out that downtown condos are expensive and says that "Austin should abandon the idea that it is encouraging downtown living to......

We knew that local tennis star Andy Roddick kept himself in good shape, but we were still taken aback when we first came across this cover photo on the latest issue of Men's Fitness: the Austin Java fan and budding philanthropist looks like he's fixin' to hulk out of his burnt orange tee. Said bulging biceps turned out to be yet another case of crafty airbrush work, as ABC News points out in their Doctored......

This year's football season may be over for the Longhorns, but their home field is about to get a much anticipated facelift. Beginning this Friday, construction crews will demolish the north end zone, the oldest part of The Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium, in order to make way for ... you guessed it, more seating. Everyone in Austin is trying to make room for more and UT football is definitely no exception. In addition to......

As though the personal trainers at Pure Austin weren't awesome enough already -- and by "awesome" we mean "intimidating" -- one of them is attempting to set a new world record next Monday as a fundraiser for some less-than-fortunate local kids. On July 10th, fitness specialist and triathlete Shawn Bostad will embark on a twelve hour run on a treadmill and attempt to beat Martin Tighe's record distance of 85.83 miles. The Associated Press says that Lance Armstrong has been cleared on charges of doping ("using steroids or other performance-enhancers," for those of you who don't hablo sports-ese) in 1999. The Dutch investigators who completed the investigation and subsequent report not only let Armstrong off the hook -- they accused the "anti-doping authorities" of misconduct. The tests that led to the initial accusations were conducted on urine samples that were 6 years old at the time......

It seems everything and everyone is getting their own national month these days. This month alone, Barbecue; Bikes; Eggs; Hamburgers; Physical Fitness & Sports; and Salsa all get their time to shine. Nothing the overrated food item eggs need more than their own damn month, after already single-handedly trying to take down the taco industrial complex. But we digress. As all of these categories own a special place in Austinist's heart, we will be doing......
