Ex-Terminators, starring Heather Graham, is “a dark comedy in the current hot genre of women-power” about a ragtag bunch of rage-aholics who meet at a group therapy session and end up assassinating exes for cash, also stars Jennifer Coolidge and current “it girl” Amber Heard as Graham’s morally lax accomplices and Joey Lauren Adams as a friend in need. That’s a lot of females to empower!

Fashion, Foul Play & Financial Tomfoolery [New Movie Releases]

Confessions of a Shopaholic, Friday the 13th (2009) and The International all come out today! Oh, joy!

Normally, we would have seen at least one of the many films that come out every week by the time they hit the big screens, but this week we are completely flying blind into that wide abyss of movie release fog. Hopefully we can guide you along your way as you scan the showtimes, and would love to hear what you think of any of the following films, but don't shoot the messenger if you want to punch a glasses wearing koala on your way out of the theater. This week, at least, we take no responsibility for your decision making process.

Creating a short film requires as much vision and creativity as any other variety, and rather than attempting to locate the best of the best using googling skills and illegal downloading, you can easily enjoy a pre-approved (by that certain Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences) selection in the comfort of your very own Alamo Draft-home. Starting on Friday, the South Lamar location will offer screenings of both the live-action and the animated Academy Award-nominated films—five shorts per 90 minute program.

In what might be called Waking Life meets Rain Man, Bob Sabiston, the braintrust behind Linklater's two animated films (and those Charles Schwab commercials), brings beautiful backgrounds, and another insightful, revelatory use of filmic animation. The premise is the documenting of a road trip to Six Flags with Ryan Powell, who is autistic. This is the latest in a series of trips the pair has taken (along with a group of friends).

There are a million ways to be, you know that there are. Some people look at the world through dark, cloudy glass, and some through rose-colored; amazingly love can still be seen and had through both. With that in mind, the Paramount will be putting a little black into their red this week as they continue their 33rd annual Summer Classic Film Series with two sets of amorous flicks, one pair with its sights on Park Avenue and the other buried six feet under. And remember, films are only $7, and if you go to the first film in the double feature, you get the second one for free!

Truthfully, every week is shark week in our hearts and minds, but this week brings with it a very special engagement of the eco-mentary Sharkwater, which follows the often dangerous, sometimes illegal, but always passionate pursuit of two men to save our fine finned friends of the big blue sea from imminent destruction at the hands of careless humans.
