Austinist Show Preview & Giveaway: Rogue Wave at The Parish

Rogue Wave released their third full-length Asleep At Heaven’s Gate last year, leaving behind the safe haven of Sub Pop to find a new home at Jack Johnson’s Brushfire Records. The album itself found the band conjuring up a textured mosaic of pop harmonies and poignant lyrics with the aid of sufficient guitars and keys. “Own Your Own Home” and “Like I Needed” were two of our favorite sleeper tracks of the past year, while single “Lake Michigan” was a lush pop hit never to be heard on everyday FM radio. New Movie Releases: Boo! Bah?

New Movie Releases: Boo! Bah?

Zombie is the watchword this time around. Not only is Rob Zombie unmasking his take on 1978’s slasher classic Halloween this weekend, the Alamo Drafthouse has also managed to round up a herd of zombie sheep from New Zealand for your viewing (really resisting the urge to say ewe-ing) pleasure. If you could care less about the grisly fate Rob Zombie doles out to lustful babysitters and the thought of zombie sheep does nothing... more ›

No End In Sight Advance Screening

This Thursday night, the Alamo will host a special advance screening of the new documentary No End In Sight. The film (which won the Special Jury Prize at Sundance earlier this year) paints a grim picture of the current situation in Iraq, and suggests that key errors in policy and strategy have caused a slow but certain spiral into chaos in the war-torn country. more ›

The following is a weekly column by guest contributor Laurie Gallardo. Hear her Friday evenings on KUT 90.5FM -- The Editors Greetings, chilly willies. To put it as succinctly as possible, he is a bad ass. This morning in... more ›

Hwy 290E is closed in both directions and the Travis County Expo Center is being used as an evacuation center. more ›

Hip and Cool....or Just Eclectic

It seems Austin has been getting a lot of attention from late night TV shows recently. Adding to this PR buzz was Robert Rodriguez who appeared on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson promoting his latest, Sin City. Robert talked mostly about bringing in Frank Miler to co-direct the film, his family, and his DIY work ethic. But he did squeeze in a couple of nice things about our little city. When the sometimes painful to watch Craig Ferguson asked if Austin was “hip and cool”, he responded by saying “it’s eclectic”. Austin…eclectic…Who knew? more ›
