Tribeza's Fashion Show was the ultimate mixer, attracting well over 300 people last Friday night at the Blanton Museum. During the hour leading up to the show, crafty DIY designers chatted up boutique owners and journalists in the VIP section, while impossibly slim women, wearing everything from vintage hats to shorts and sandals, sipped cocktails under the museum terrace. We arrived early to sample complimentary hors d'oeurves of the raw-fish variety, prepared by Truluck's, Starlite,...
One of the big components of next month's Maker Faire Austin festival is the Swap-O-Rama-Rama, an enormous clothing swap and DIY workshop series. Through the recycling and repurposing of used clothing, Swap-O-Rama-Rama seeks to explore the benefits of community reuse and creativity. During the festival, you'll be able to bring your own bag of unwanted clothing to be added to the collective pile; in turn, you're invited to take away as much as you'd like....

Style Week is kicking off with a happy hour at By George’s South Congress location, where you can nibble on goodies from Cissi’s Market and peruse the flirty fashions....

An annual showcase and celebration of all things DIY, the Stitch Fashion Show and Guerrilla Craft Bazaar returns for its fourth installment this Saturday with an even bigger and better lineup. Back in 2003, local designers Jesse Kelly-Landes (Amet and Sasha), Tina Sparkles (Sparkle Craft), Karly Hand (Identity Crisis Clothing) and Jennifer Perkins (Naughty Secretary Club), dismayed that Austin lacked an effective outlet for independent designers to exhibit their work, orchestrated one of the city's...

For a while after all of our friends moved to the North Loop area, we cursed them. Their relocation meant more money spent on gas, longer commutes for reality t.v.-watching, and packing on the pounds from all those Parlor pizzas and Ararat hummus. We changed our tune when we drove down 53rd St. one day and spotted our new favorite store, Slinky Whistle Bait. The boutique (whose name apparently comes from a World War...
Faeryn's Grove, purveyor of custom-made corsets, fetish-"inspired" clothing (mmm) and other goodies, is hosting "East of Indica" at Ruta Maya tomorrow night - it promises to be a fashion show that's anything but the cheeky Milan runway shows that we've never been invited to. They're showcasing Eastern-inspired couture fashions made of sustainable organic-grown materials, most of which were purchased directly from the weavers and harvesters in third-world countries. Naturally, there's a full line-up of DJs and musicians - Horizontal K, Natcha Bwoi, Chant, Govinda, Meera and J - who'll be spinning, singing, or producing wicked tribal beats well into the night. They're also promising an "exhibit of performances ranging from live music, puppetry, bellydance, drumming, stiltwalking, and ingenuity from people who love their crafts." It should be an interesting show, to say the least.
