Music News: Metallica Picks On Austin for Orion Music Festival, Explosions In The Sky Tour
Video: Explosions in the Sky "Last Known Surroundings"
This is somehow their very first video? Seriously? You might have guessed, but the video is over eight minutes and is a space odyssey journey type-thing. Seriously though, it's really well-done. Enjoy!
Snapshots: Explosions in the Sky at ACL Live
Friday night's show at ACL Live was a homecoming for Explosions In The Sky. Since the release of their sixth studio album Take Care, Take Care, Take Care, the band have played at Radio City Music Hall, the Bonnaroo Festival, picked up a few shows with Arcade Fire and completed an overseas tour which included the Primavera Festival in Spain.
Explosions In The Sky at ACL Live Tonight [Show Preview]
It's already been a pretty incredible year for local instrumental rock band Explosions In The Sky. They released their sixth full-length album Take Care, Take Care, Take Care back in April and itdebuted at #16 on the Billboard album charts. In the first week alone, the record sold more than 19,000 copies, but that shouldn't be a huge surprise considering that 2007's All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone has gone on to sell over 107,000 copies.

Oh, the Humidity! [Extra Extra]

- The “hot female sex offender” list from last week stirred up lots of words in the blogosphere!
- Did you miss seeing Explosions in the Sky due to that awful traffic when they opened for Arcade Fire at the Backyard earlier this month? At least you can see them in London!

Snapshots: Explosions In the Sky @ Stubb's [Fourth of July]
For those of us interested in literal explosions in the sky augmented by live music modeled after the experience, Saturday night at Stubb's was a treat. Local post-rock heroes Explosions in the Sky rocked the sold-out crowd as fireworks exploded over Lady Bird Lake.
Lollapalooza Tickets On Sale Tomorrow
2009's Lolapalooza Festival will take place at Chicago's Grant Park between August 7-9. The lineup (which looks a lot like recent ACL fests) includes Radiohead, Kanye West, Wilco, Cat Power, the National, and Bloc Party. Depeche Mode, the Beastie Boys and a reunited Jane’s Addiction are expected to headline. Tickets are on sale tomorrow, get them here. [Ed. Note: Despite the web site's '2009' label, it appears as though all the information is from 2008. We'll keep you posted as lineup information becomes available.]
SXSW Music Updates: Rock Operas, Hold Times, and Day Shows
Things are finally starting to come into focus for SX Music '09. A few of the more interesting items we've read in the past week:
- The Arc Angels (3/20) and Explosions In The Sky (3/21) will headline two of the always popular free showcases at Auditorium Shores during the festival.
- Paste cover boy and She and Him co-founder M. Ward will be back at SXSW this year to plug his new album Hold Time. No word yet on dates, but we'd guess he'll play the Merge showcase at the very least.

ACL Fest Artist Interview: Austinist Talks To Midlake
In an unusual turn of events, Denton's Midlake were heralded as the next big thing in the UK before anyone had really ever heard of them here in Texas. Signed to The Cocteau Twins' label Bella Union (which is also home to Explosions In The Sky), Midlake toured Europe behind lo-fi debut album Bamnan and Slivercork before returning home to create a defining work. They finally received some domestic notice with the release of...
Austinist Interview: Explosions In The Sky
Austin's Explosions In The Sky play powerful instrumental indie-rock that has been compared to Mogwai and Sigur Ros and are widely lauded by critics. Their live shows have become so popular that their Emo's show in March has been sold out for weeks, and multiple-night runs are now needed in cities like New York and Toronto. After a three-plus year wait, EITS's new album All Of A Sudden, I Miss Everyone arrives on Tuesday....
Concert Update: The Roots, Merle Haggard, Four Tet, And So Much More
Now that we're in mid-January, club bookings for winter and spring shows are beginning to emerge. While much internet browsing has already been done looking for the SXSW 2007 lineup, there are also plenty of great touring shows dropping in outside of those dates (thankfully). New shows from The Roots, Explosions In The Sky, Midlake, and a Willie Nelson/Merle Haggard double bill top the new additions, but there is plenty here for all musical...
By The End Of Tonight...You Will Be Totally Sweaty
Ask any mop-haired kid roaming the UT campus with clingy jeans and just a hint of bong water breath, and said youth will tell you By The End Of Tonight is the hottest thing since Malibu real estate. Lucky for him, and you, they're playing a post-extended-hiatus set at Emo's tonight. The Alvin, TX quartet render layers of messy, metallic instrumental post-rock into songs that meander towards catharsis like a lost baby deer wandering into...
