Fans of the southern-spawned Elephant Six collective have learned that patience is a virtue. Years pass, promises are...deferred, but eventually the friends and co-conspirators behind a gaggle of psychedelic pop bands deliver, and how. The "Holiday Surprise Tour" is a reference to the Olivia Tremor Control song, but it's also safe to wonder aloud that maybe the collective intended to get the tour rolling during the actual winter holidays, (hence the snowman prop) but obligations got in the way. It took until the very end of February, but they made it before SXSW, thank goodness.

Show Preview & Giveaway: Elf Power, Vic Chesnutt and Sad Accordions at The Parish
Dark Developments is what you get when you combine the experience and oddness of the singer-songwriter Athens mainstay Vic Chesnutt with the power-pop punch of the underrated Elephant Six rockers Elf Power. Lead singer Andrew Reiger told us about the album during an interview we did with the band during SXSW, and with the album out on the Orange Twin label in mid-October, the two acts have embarked on a U.S. tour that extends to the end of this month.
Austinist Show Preview: Belaire (comeback show!), Elf Power, and a bunch more at Mohawk
The Mohawk on Friday is going to be absolutely busting out with music, as one of their patently awesome two-stages-for-one-ticket deals hits the scene. Getting the big print and final time slot on the two stages are Elf Power and Belaire, but they're just small pieces of what looks to be a good long night of song. So we'll break this down all methodical-like so you won't have to worry about missing anything, and you'll finally learn the wonderfulness that is six live (and actually quite good!) bands for less than an Alexander Hamilton.
Austinist Previews SXSW: Thursday Free Showcases
Thursday Flamingo Cantina takes a break from bringing in bands like The Skatalites and Israel Vibration. Instead, for this free day show they will host the shimmering and sentimental, Swedish alt rock of the Shout Out Louds. You’ll also hear the catchy California rock of Rogue Wave and the love song sing-alongs and quirky experiments of Akron/Family. Sub Pop’s Portland drums-and-guitar duo The Helio Sequence come prepared with spacey indie rock prettiness, and Fleet Foxes are set to impress with charming guitars and melodic tones. Expect a thrilling display from Athens’ psych-folk collective Elf Power.
Austinist Interviews SXSW: Elf Power
One of the Elephant Six Collective’s flagship acts, Elf Power have steadily released albums since the late '90s, eventually infusing their psych-pop song craft with a sturdy dose of big T. Rex glam guitars and enough classic rock oomph to derail any notion that the band will ever get stuck on just one style. Lead singer Andrew Rieger chatted with Austinist via email about the band’s new album, collaborations with other artists, and what’s been going on creatively in Athens, Georgia, the city this band calls home.

Peter & The Wolf is/are preparing for a spring tour which will feature not only the soothing sounds of the Austin-based singer/songwriter Red Hunter, but a tour-only CD. Though this 6 week jaunt around the country will feature the same reliable Toyota as previous trips, one notable difference is the permanence of Hunter's accompanying band, which will remain solid throughout the tour. Some lucky locals around hosting towns will be featured as choir members...
