One of the Elephant Six Collective’s flagship acts, Elf Power have steadily released albums since the late '90s, eventually infusing their psych-pop song craft with a sturdy dose of big T. Rex glam guitars and enough classic rock oomph to derail any notion that the band will ever get stuck on just one style. Lead singer Andrew Rieger chatted with Austinist via email about the band’s new album, collaborations with other artists, and what’s been going on creatively in Athens, Georgia, the city this band calls home.

On Wednesday at the Salvage Vanguard theatre, a character named Ethan Master of the Hawaiian Ukulele stripped down to his bathing suit, donned a hat and colorful lei, and then stood on his amp to proclaim, via song, “I heard noise-pop is in.” You know Ethan, you might be right. And leading the fray are none other than our own Peel, a magnanimously kick-ass band whose bits of unbridled feedback and synthesizer explosions are balanced with a collective appreciation for the types of melodies that make ears smile. In an E6 message board posting, Fakey McMotherFaker claimed that new material might be on the way, and went on to ramble about giant eggs and Michael Bolton and other crazy things.
