People lined up before the doors opened this morning at early voting. Statesman surprises by endorsing Obama. Chief Acevedo starting first "no refusal" operation for those suspected of driving drunk. Collin County man involved in "forbidden" dance lessons (no, it's nothing to do with the lambada). LBJ LASA students got to speak with Garriott in space over the weekend. Two men dead after cliff-diving at Lake Travis. Trial for suspect of 2007 Juneteenth beating death begins today.

Primary results from national/state/local races: So even though it seems that Hillary won the Texas primary (it's interesting that Obama led in statewide early voting), Obama may beat her in delegate numbers. In the GOP race, McCain is now the GOP candidate as Huckabee gives up the ghost. In Travis County, Ron Paul won 17% of the vote . . .

Unlike past primaries where the Presidential nominees were already decided by the time we voted, Texas' votes are quite significant this year. After the polls close this evening, the party's not over; it's precinct convention time! This whole caucus thing is new to us, so we thought it was worth posting a refresher.

Even those still rooting for under-underdog Ron Paul have something to look forward to: the ten-term Congressman is coming to UT Austin this Saturday for a massive rally at the Main Mall. "Although he is behind in delegate numbers and poll support, Ron Paul says he intends to continue the race as long as his supporters finance him," wrote Chris Robertson, Event Coordinator for this weekend's event.

PinkDome, Burnt Orange Report and In the Pink Texas just reminded us that early voting started today. Familiarize yourself on the issues at hand with the nonpartisan League of Women Voters Voter's Guide, and check out the Secretary of State's list of proposed constitutional amendments.

We here at the Austinist just wanted to remind you that, if you didn't exercise your civic duty during the early voting window, tomorrow is the day to make your voice heard. Make sure you haul yourself out to your local polling location and cast your vote.

Today, May 3rd, is the last day for early voting for the joint general and special elections scheduled for May 7th, 2005. Here is a nice list of polling places around the county, provided by the lovely and overworked folks at the County Clerk Elections Division. Remember everyone, all Travis county voters can vote at any of these locations. Get out the vote kids, and exercise your constitutional right to decide if smoking (just cigarettes?) should or should not be allowed in work places and indoor public areas. Polls close at 7 PM tonight.

Early voting started yesterday, April 20th, and runs till May 3rd.
