Bull Creek Dog Park May Be On-Leash This September

If every dog has its day, then that day is Sept. 8 for the free-roaming Fidos at the Bull Creek District Park. Blaming unsafe levels of E. coli bacteria in the unleashed dogs’ fecal waste, the city proposed yesterday to make Bull Creek an on-leash park this September.

Your best excuse for throwing that zany-yet-slutty costume onto your favorite pooch (this side of Halloween) comes this Saturday with back-to-back pet events along South Congress.

According to Stuart Strong, acting director of the Austin Parks and Recreation, the department has already received feedback from people on both sides of the leash issue but it will be holding an upcoming meeting later this month to discuss this and other concerns facing Auditorium Shores improvements. Once the department has a sense for the public's stance on the issue, it will present the final plan to the City Council for approval.

Well, the title of this story pretty much says it all. Or, at least most of it. Men's Health magazine recently published a ranking of the top 50 dog-friendly cities in the country. Dear old Austin made the top ten, coming in at 7th place nationwide.
