We've already told you about The Arm's CD release show on Friday, but we think it deserves another mention: they'll be playing with Single Frame, Faceless Werewolves and Lomita over at Emo's. We've also just found out that Super!Alright! has been tapped to provide visuals, which kinda makes sense considering they've already done a bunch of videos for Single Frame. The Arm's promised to bring some "special guests" onstage throughout their set, as well as...
Summer is coming, and the post-SX lull appears to be ending for Austin gigs. Many SX bands are scheduling return appearances, and our outdoor venues are beginning to release May and June schedules. The following list offers some highlights (for comprehensive listings, check Pollstar or Showlist Austin): 4/15 - Calexico (free early show) @ Emo's 4/15 - Deathray Davies + The M's @ Emo's 4/24 - TV on the Radio + Celebration @ Emo's...
Oh, Friday, sweet Friday, and the promise of music and merriment you bring. Even with SXSW ready to crash into our little Texas hamlet at any moment, there are still plenty of must-see shows this weekend. And just wait until you see the line up next week. Matt Pond PA, Mates of State, and Matisyahu all on the same night? Three magnificent Ms, unreal. But we like to live life in the moment, and...
The groovy eclectic tunes on local college radio station KVRX have helped us slog through many a tepid workday. When they're not broadcasting on FM 91.7 (the frequency space is shared with Austin community station KOOP), you can always hear them over the internet - or at your leisure now, thanks to their podcasting feature. Where else during the day can you turn to hear songs from Wolf Parade, Sufjan Stevens and !!! back...

Tonight, Dallas-based retro sextet The Deathray Davies play a special show at Emo's to celebrate the release of their new LP, The Kick and the Snare. From starting off as an all-but unknown act at SXSW back in 1999, the indie popstars have since come to enjoy both modest celebrity and critical respect. Think delicate vocals, driving bass lines, and simple harmonies with influences ranging from Bob Dylan to New Wave to the Beach Boys. We still prefer 2003's Midnight at the Black Nail Polish Factory, but that's probably because we've been spending all our time listening to Architecture in Helsinki's new album instead of The Kick and the Snare - this we plan to remedy after the show tonight. Expect a dynamic stage presence and a live performance every bit as good as their studio recordings. But don't worry if you miss them this time around; they'll be back in two weeks along with Louis XIV. Either way, you should check out their cover of The Kinks' "Holiday in Waikiki".The Deathray Davies

Some more new music for the week to get you through the weekend... Deathray Davies – The Kick and the Snare This Dallas based sextet delivers their best record yet, full of power pop hooks and catchy indie-rock fun. I bet Weezer wishes this was the kind of record they would have released last week. We will enjoy blasting this in our car during those hot summer days to come. The Deathray Davies are...
