From February 23rd to March 10th, A Chick and A Dude's production of the David Mamet play "Glengarry Glen Ross" ran at the Hyde Park Theater, which we reviewed here and posted on the 7th. At a later performance, however, the drama on stage was briefly overshadowed by drama on/off stage, when one of the actors felt so distracted by some drunk in the audience that with a bellowing "WHAT?!" the offending gentleman was made an example of and escorted out of the audience with shouts of "Go fuck yourself, get out of here!" Unsurprisingly, the expletives fly easy at a Mamet performance. Our only wish: at one point the play-interrupter says "Who are you?" to a guy in the audience. The current production of David Mamet's Speed-the-Plow, closing this weekend at Austin Playhouse is great theatre. It's brisk, fun, and sharp, with plenty of kick. The Harry Ransom Center at UT is announcing today that they have acquired the archives of American playwright David Mamet. These archives include journals, manuscripts and drafts of each of the acclaimed writer's plays and screenplays.
