Brooklyn singer-songwriter Mike Doughty's name may not instantly register with you, but you have undoubtedly heard him before. In the early 90's, he founded the alt.radio staple Soul Coughing, who had hits with "Super Bon Bon" and "Circles" before disbanding in 2000. Far from the throwaway status of the Marcy Playgrounds and Harvey Dangers of the day, Soul Coughing used samples, drum loops, jazz references, and experimental producers like Mitchell Froom on their recordings. This......

Andy Roddick, the world’s sixth-ranked men’s tennis player and part-time Austin resident, was in town last weekend for his Second Annual Andy Roddick Foundation Charity Gala. You may have heard that a certain filmmaker is in town for his own personal film fest. Well, he's also making national news, as Quentin Tarantino has reportedly agreed to come on board to direct the new biopic chronicling the life and times of Jimi Hendrix. The film, which has been stalled in development deals for what seems to be ages, has the approval of Hendrix's brother Leon and Jimi's estate. In ACL News......

This music is so damn funky it’s scary. Keyboard virtuoso and Neville family member Ivan and his funky band of misfits (“Dumpstaphunk”) are coming to The Parish Room on Halloween. The other members in the band are Tony Hall (Dave Matthews & Friends, Harry Connick, Jr., Jewel, Emmylou Harris), Nick Daniels (Neville Brothers, Etta James, Boz Scaggs, Wild Magnolias), Ian Neville (Neville Brothers, Funky Meters) and Raymond Webber (Dirty Dozen, Harry Connick, Jr., Fats......

What a difference a year makes. It seems like only yesterday we spent our summer Mondays at Cedar Street Courtyard, sipping Lemon Drops and relaxing to the soothing sounds of Austin’s own Slowtrain. The band, which “borrows influences from everyone from Dave Matthews to The Band to Bob Dylan to Johnny Cash” (according to their website) is undergoing some changes so we haven’t heard much from them lately. However, we were happy to learn......
