As the clock ticks towards Emo's Red River implosion on December 24 30th, Emo's owner Frank Hendrix and the staff have decided to ceremoniously remove one brick of the venue at a time until the venue collapses like a Jenga set on said date. Consequently, you only have so much time to breathe in the sweet musk of up the urine soaked cigarettes in the men's bathroom, drink your body weight in Lonestar, or show someone how wonderful your elbows are in the mosh pit before the venue comes crashing down in a blaze of musical memories.

This Is Not A Photograph: Mission of Burma at the Mohawk [Show Preview]
The career arc of Mission of Burma reads like a music critic’s failed screenplay: A group of Boston music vets—with a noted affinity for experimental composers like John Cage and Karlheinz Stockhausen—form a punk band that toils in relative obscurity, releasing a few singles, an EP, and a hell of a debut album before breaking up due to the guitarist’s painful tinnitus. This could have been the band’s epitaph, but thanks to reunion tours, a cult following, and the internet, Mission of Burma have now been elevated to Important Band Status—and rightly so. Now a new generation gets to rub elbows with those original fans and that original sound tonight at the Mohawk.
HEALTH, Indian Jewelry, More [Show Preview]
Red 7 has booked a generous bill for this Saturday for any listener who loves their noise. Beginning at nine-thirty, we have Computer Jesus Refrigerator playing a short 15 minute set on the floor. The insane-sounding San Antonio band specialize in short, painful bursts of sound, created from drums, synths and odd, not easily-identifiable instruments. Our own Daniel Francis Doyle follows with a twenty minute set. What Doyle lacks in glitch or extreme sounds is more than made up for his one-man exuberance and unmistakable aesthetic.
Austinist Show Preview: Diagonals EP Release At Beerland
We'd be remiss if we didn't point out that there's a show tomorrow kicking off Diagonals upcoming tour with instrumental powerhouse and beloved locals Octopus Project. The aforementioned slanted band will also be releasing a new EP, which paves the way for an album this fall. It's nice to see they're keeping themselves busy.
Austinist Show Preview: HEALTH at Emo's
For what it’s worth, Los Angeles really has a toehold on trendy noise-rock right now. First you have the ubiquitous No Age, who have visited Austin at least twice this year already, and then you’ve also got their caps-lock lovin’ pals HEALTH also touring the States as of right this second. A quartet who formed not even three years ago, HEALTH have already been (some would say excessively) hyped by indie media outlets galore, including but not limited to the insufferable know-it-alls at Pitchfork, who invited the band to play their music festival just this past weekend. Having cut a split 7” with equally buzzed-about group Crystal Castles and planning a few tour dates with of Montreal in the near future, HEALTH seem poised to remain on the tips of tongues at least until the inevitable backlash in a few weeks.

Terrorists Infiltrate East Side, Kind Of
Named for the proclivities of a Parisian couple who planned to take out the titular monument because its lights kept them up at night, San Diego's The Plot To Blow Up The Eiffel Tower play a fairly lovable brand of jazz-inflected sass-core. Or perhaps we should say they used to; since the show is billed as part of their last tour before they disband, presumably to further their careers in hedge fund management. The...
