If you haven’t experienced the dreamy, spectral indie pop group Beach House yet, then be sure that you will. This Baltimore-based duo of Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally’s keys and guitar has been winning over fans mainly by word of mouth. Their last show in Austin during the beginning of March brought such a crowd that their next performance in town will no doubt have to be upgraded from Emo’s lounge to the outside stage. Beach House’s 2006 self-titled debut met with high critical acclaim. However, their latest, Devotion, isn’t making quite the same splash....

Cry Blood Apache drops its latest output in the form of Northern Travelers (on Ghetto Pagoda Records) this Tuesday. The EP will be available starting April 1st at Waterloo Records and End of An Ear, and also online at listen.to/crybloodapache. CBA formed in 2005; currently the trio consists of Jason Chrien, Ben Ellis (or “Kaspar Glass”), and Mitch Hinrichs (or “Hans Hinrich.”) So what exactly are the band's influences? According to bassist Chrien, “The three of us take stylistic cues from old-school reality television shows like Real TV and Max X. The low-fidelity presentation of those programs makes it clear the power immediacy has in art, regardless of medium. We apply a “hand-held” aesthetic to our music in tribute.” CBA's most interesting discography includes an Untitled CD Demo (2005) and a Self-Titled Cassette EP (2005) along with the Performing Diversion Acrobatics LP from 2006 and the Industry MixTape Vol. 1 EP from last year. CBA’s latest 4 song effort was recorded in January of this year, clocks in at just over ten minutes, and was produced by Chrien....

Local noise brokers Horse + Donkey dropped their eponymous full-length recently and this Saturday, The Hole In The Wall hosts an official CD release show to celebrate this fine collection of droning post-rock. Opener “At A Station” along with standouts “Dot Dot” and “Riddle” will be familiar to the band’s loyal fans from their live performances; the tracks blend surf rock and psychedelic guitars with wonderfully dark and echoing vocals to create a dreary haze of dissonance. It is often impossible to decipher the lyrics on Horse + Donkey but that only adds to the mystique of it all. “Things” seems to be about some impending doom, “Shoal Heirs” and “Amorous Mare” tell tales we’d love to hear with clarity, and good luck decoding the words and howls in “S.F. S.A.” or “Big End.”...
