The full calendar for this year’s Homeslice Carnival has been released! Head on down to 1415 South Congress this Saturday, 11/19, from 12-9pm for a slew of family-oriented, pizza-lovin’ fun. A midway, open from noon until 6, will feature The House of Beauty, an ol’ fashioned Picture Booth, Pee Wee Pizzaiolo, and a classis Bouncy House for the kids. All proceeds benefit Austin Bat Cave, a non-profit writing program for Austin youth.
Lineup Announced for Homeslice's 2011 Carnival!
Texas Is A Big Place, Lots of Things Happen Here [Extra Extra]
- Is this a workers’ comp injury? Dude badly cut himself while allegedly breaking into “Big Bang Custom Paint and Body” in Killeen. He was arrested after he got out of the hospital!
- This reads more like an action-movie plot than a headline: “Vehicle crashes into home, hits baby. Baby expected to be OK.”
- Dallas-area church really wanted 18 cohabiting couples to get hitched so they footed the bill for a big wedding! The wedding was part of a lecture series called, "The Real Flava of Love."
Weekend Music Preview: White Denim CD Release @ The Mohawk
It’s no secret that we’ve been fans of White Denim for a long time. And for good reason. The band has churned out a handful of excellent records, and on stage, the trio of James Petralli, Steve Terebecki, and Josh Block exhibit an instinctive chemistry, combining effortlessly to execute their calculated sonic experiments. Although the new record Fits dropped in the U.K. this past June (read our review here), it finally saw an official release in the U.S. earlier this week and the boys will mark this momentous occasion at The Mohawk on Saturday night with a typically robust performance, no doubt.
Austinist Show Preview: Donkeys, Deleted Scenes, and Crooks at Mohawk
San Diego's Donkeys give us the impression that they are much weirder than their band's prosaic name or their subtly executed arrangements suggest. Curiously forward nudge-and-a-wink lyrics, gangly Jonathan Richman guitars, and a fat Fender Rhodes hefted onstage for good measure all conspire to competently deliver some of the most easygoing couchsurf-indie you'll hear this semester.
